Sometimes my mouth just drops open when I see some of the prices these buyers end up buying some of these models at. On e-bay right now, the MAS Hibiscus 744 is at $86 (buyer 'speck727' who's on a roll picking up everything in sight) and other models like the Air Pacific 744, China Southern 777 (old version) and even FM models going for well over $50, the RS VS A380 going for $60. I guess these guys have never heard of this place or others like the MAS and CX online stores and of course Air Kuro!

For example, I saw a HG B737 sold for more than $100 when my friend won the same model a few weeks earlier for less than $20. That difference of more than $80 can fetch my friend at least 3-4 more HG B737s in the future.

True, there is two VIASA DC-10-30 on e-bay right now. In the first one the fight is intense and the model is reaching 50 $ and the second one doesn“t have a single bid and its starting price is 22 $.

Is that the GJ Latin Classics one? I'm glad I got mine for $25 when I did.

I agree people who are buying on ebay are paying way over the price, example a Korean Air 747-400 from rise soon went for over £50 plus postage were I brought one from rise soon for £32 including postage.

Well I sent a message to 'speck727' and invited him to join up here. I got a reply from him and he's never heard of this site but said he'd check it out and was grateful for the info.

My experience in buying models is a bit similar... but far less expensive! When I first started collecting (appx. 8 months ago) I purchased quite a few models on eBay... I was mostly seeking older GJ models at the time. I did overpay for a few... mostly at the $10 to $15 range... at least I took the time to do SOME research before I purchased however, I too at the time had no idea these aircraft forums existed. While I'm not one to post volumes here or on the other sites, I do read them very often and have learned a ton of very valuable information.
As with many of you, I do check eBay often and am in total shock at some of the prices! My first thought is always, "dang, I have that model and had NO idea it was worth THAT MUCH"... then reality sets in! I soon see the same models, perhaps several times over, going for a much lower price. I have made a couple of "big scores" however, it does'nt happen often. My last was the GJ Qantas 744 "Formula One"... I paid $25 on a "BIN"... I just happened to be on eBay the minute it came on and scooped it up. I have often wondered what in the hell makes this plane fetch upwards of $100. and know for a fact I would have NEVER paid even close to that price for it. That was a great deal... here's a sample of a big mistake... I paid (on eBay) $49 for the GJ SWA 732 (mustard)... could still kick myself for that one, but hey, I love the model, so what the heck.

That GJ QF B744 F1 model was a hot model until 3-4 years ago when BB released the same model, but without the tail seam.

It's all cool though and irrelevent to me anyway, as I collect what I like and not for investment purposes. I do find it somewhat fun though when I do purchase a model and find the value going up, up, and up for whatever reasons dictate the spiral climb... does'nt happen often, that's for damn sure. If I was buying for investment purposes, I'de definately be living on boxed mac 'n cheese and bologna sandwiches... , we all would!

I haven't been scouring for this particular model for years ever since I got the BB version. Plus, I'm out of 1:400 since a year ago.

It isn't LeFreak. He recently told me about his latest purchases and after reviewing everything speck727 has won, I can tell you, it definitely isn't LeFreak. Plus, LeFreak doesn't care that much for 727s so I doubt he'd use that as an eBay member name.

I have to ask my friend who is a F/A on EK to bring me the model the next time he does the Toronto trip. Would that be the B772 or the B772LR...Would make no difference if it still had the non-raked wing tips! Maybe Airkuro could fill us in with some pics of this new baby! Sweet!!!!![]() |

Well don't get your hopes up. He said they had MORE than one version of the 777, so what else could it be other than the 772? He said they had the high quality version with landing gears i.e. RS and the cheaper crappy versions and in the high quality version, they had 2 types of the 777. He got himself the RS A345 and 744F. I'm still not entirely convinced though as he's still new to collecting and has only about 25 models in his collection. I'll know more by tomorrow.
