I cleaned my models yesterday and found that all the rubber gears on my Boeing 747-8 cracked, yes all of them and here is the pic... which hanger do I have to send my plane to?

This is exactly why I have been against rubber wheels from the start (look at my model reviews)
I spent a lot of money on an Armor 1:32 scale F-15 with rubber wheels. After about a year of sitting on the shelf, the wheels didn't crack, they went "flat" due to the weight of the model. I prefer the old hard plastic gears - they may not be as realistic, but they won't dry up, crack, or be flattened by the weight of the model. - n1786b |

Cracking rubber ain't me.
Uhm, that'll be hard to vulcanize, the crack is too wide. I'll go for the metal wheels with imprinted rims as well.

Good grief, even RS rubber tires don't end up looking like this.

Wow, that's the worst case of tire cracking I've seen. What was the point of Hogan changing their wheels to rubber anyway? I was satisfied with the imprinted metal wheels.
I hope this doesn't happen with other makers' models. So far my Inflight 200s and Phoenix 200s are holding up okay. I suppose you could order a new set of gear. The old metal gears should still be available at online retailers, unless they're switching those to rubber, too.

Does Hogan offer customer care to replace the tires or the entire gears?

Mine look EXACTLY the same ... but you know what? From two feet away you can't see the difference unless you are really looking for it ... in fact, I hadn't noticed the problem until you mentioned it in this thread ... so for what it's worth, hopefully we can get FREE replacement gears/tires from Hogan. ![]() |

I do have many models that came with rubber gears both from HG and SM/RS.
As soon as I recieve them, I replace the wheels with HG imprinted metal gears sets sold separately. However, GJ, IF, PH gears are holding fine so far. Please note that most of my models in still in their original boxes. I normally display a model few days and cleaned and back to the box. So all my models have HG imprinted metal gears, except ones that has Herpa retrofit 747 gears. I think these are different than HG rubbers. |

damm, I have checked thru my HG 787 tires today and found the cracks....it just started to crack i guess. I have now keeping my the other 2 HG A380s and put them in flight mode, until I get the metal gears replacements for them. Kind of dissapointed, I only had my HG 787 less than 3 months. Will write to Herpa, hopefully I can get the replacements from Herpa. Do herpa had the metal gears for 787?

I'll be interested to know the answer to that question too...anyone has HE's retrofit rubber tires that have been installed more than a year or two? Any problems so far?

I just received the Hogan CO and US 757 both with winglets.
Surprisingly only the CO had rubber wheels and the US did not. I repacked them after assembling them to see they were ok. ![]() |

There will be replacement tires available soon from HG. The material compound has been changed to increase more anti-aging agent.
