Your model was used for the rejected take-off test before it was sent to you.

I might have to check the KL A332 model before I purchase it. You can always replace them with the retrofit set, which I in my opinion, looks better.

Sorry, but you can always try the Hogan landing gear set for B787.

i've seen many of the planes with same problem.
Herpa 1/200 B747-8 plastic with rubber wheels have same problem and those also melt when in contact with plastic. Herpa 1/200 B727-100 diecast with rubber wheels have same problem and those also melt when in contact with plastic. Phoenix 1/200 B737-400 diecast with rubber wheels have same problem and those also melt when in contact with plastic. I suspect that Starjets and Risesoon will have similar problems too. I find that Herpa Premium and retrofit wheels have not had these problems just yet. cheers!

I can speak with my scientific hat on. The "cracked" tyres are due to poorly compounded "rubber" material. Ask for replacement wheels! Contact with plastic etc (unless hot or possibly greasy) will have NO EFFECT on the propensity for these defects.
Cheers!

I haven't bought any 787 models yet... I didn't realize the Hogan 787 had rubber wheels. Is this a trend for all new Hogans or just for the 787?
I think the plastic wheels are just fine anyway, even though my Inflight 200s have rubber wheels.

This cracked tyre business is interesting. It looks like the tyre material is shrinking, or drying out in some way. Surely this really is a manufacturing fault that the factory need to sort out. Will happen to every tyre ever fitted or just those unlucky enough to have tyres from a bad batch ?
There is/was a diecast toy manufacturer in France called Solido. At one time their vinyl tyres started to melt the ABS plastic wheel hubs on the models. Horrible mess ! Will aircraft model manufacturers offer free tyres through the retailers or do you have to contact the factory direct ? |

The plague of cracked wheels has hit Seattle. All of my 748 gear is cracked (and with my colllection, thats my best model...), though its been on its stand all the time. Bad rubber then. johnhung, that looks pretty bad with it cracking all the way through. Are most people having that much happen?

herpa reported back that they have a "new batch" of wheels coming in soon. whether this is a new type of rubber or just another shipment of this old stuff, i dont know...still waiting for reply

As I've said the composition (the compounding mix) for the "rubber" is incorrect and inexcuseable!! "Cracking" etc indicates possibly low plasticizer contents. Write to the model mfrer as this is a crass error on their part.
Can it be fixed? Yes of course, if the compounding is done properly and QC parameters are made and adhered to. Cheers!

That may be the manufacturers official line, but here in UK and I would guess also The European Union, its the retailer who sold you the product and in law its the retailer who is responsible for his sales contract with you, and, therefore its the retailer who is responsible for supplying "goods that are of merchantable quality".
Adhering strictly to the letter of the law the retailer (in the UK) is responsible for repairing or exchanging the goods. Don't know about U.S.law though. |
