It's the best all round scale for large passenger aircraft and you can also obtain 1/200 vehicles and figures to complement them.
Not forgetting the amazing choice and quality e.g. Inflight/Western models.

Why..

1/400 - I cant see the detail ( without me gl*****.. ( great that is g l a s s e s ) and the likes of anything smaller than the Connie look too much like cereal packet giveaways... Some of the 747's are nice though... MUSTNT START...... sorry..

1/300 Nothing out there apart from a coupla Jumbos..

1/250 Was going to go there but the big Corgi/Gemini F88K up with the VC10 put me off and by that time I have started collecting 1/200ths..

1/144 Started here - big mistake cos the production line has dried up.. and in anycase it has to stop at 707 size.. Planes such as 747..A380 would be just tooo massive.. Also big mistake as models all feature unsightly join lines..

So..

1/200.. and if you have the moneyand a good search engine... you can basically buy anything... from 737's to Vanguards.. VC10's to DC8's..... AND you can mix plastic / resin and metal..

In fact the range available is so massive that I really should try and collect a part of it rather than the whole... but where to start...

I have a lot of Air Jet models made in the 1980's so I have a few Baders, Herpa, Star Jets, Phoenix and a few other companies in this scale. Good size and detail on many.

Because many built 1/144 widebodies are to large for my display case and many 1/144 moulds simply suck.
I do some Hasegawa200 models, so 1/200 diecast models do nicely add to the slowly growing collection.

Talking I collect 1/200th scale

i collect 1/200th scale because the majority of the aircraft I enjoy collecting come in that scale. Example are my Western Models military aircraft and commercial airliners from the late 40's and 50's.

I'am fast reaching the end of my collecting until Western comes out with something new however I can also look forward to Inflight for my 1/200th scale models of PAN AM 747's and the new release of their 737's.

Default Nice size

I mostly have 1:400 but do own ten or so 1:200. I actually prefer some smaller aircraft in that scale. I play with my models a bit and they are very manageable, especially plastic ones like the old Star Jets. I have a few of the all metal Herpas and they are awesome. For what you get they're a real value. The nicest ones are too rich for my blood, though I am looking forward to the InFlight 200 732s. Frontier Saul Bass would be great!!!

I do have a few larger diecasts, one Inflight 200 Braniff 707-327 in Panagra Green, a 1/144 Corgi Braniff L-749 Connie, and 2 Hogans. A NWA 747-451 pre-production sample (ebay rocks!), and a US A330. I haven't bought any 1/400, or 1/200 diecast in several months, as I am working on filling gaps in my other diecast collection, 1/24 NASCAR's!

So where exactly did you get the info concerning 1/200 or scales in general? I can't see any other info besides the basic "Schuco-Aviation" announcement on their site.

at the moment have tobe patient...
wait around 10-12 days and you will find more information about it
on schuco´s website ...
this means not that you got models allready within some days !
This takes a bit more time.....

wasn't there a StarJets-Schuco partnership for 1/200 models back in 2002-2003?? Are they recycling the 1/200 B-757 mould? IT was an excellent mould and I am sad we only got a few models. The Starjets 1/200 Airbus mould sucked tough. It had a totally inaccurate nose.
