Unhappy This has been a sad day...............

Today construction workers started work on my garage and on the other side of that wall is my den where all my 1/400 and 1/200 scale models are on.

And of course thinking about this issue I immediately went into my den just in time to watch several of my 1/200 western models hit the floor. Damage control is as follows.......TU-114 is totaled as well as my B-29. One PAN AM Startocruiser was able to be repaired as well as one of my KC-97 tankers. The B-36 survived INTACT as well as my Russian AN-22.....(loose nose-wheel) One Pan American Stratocruiser repaired. Additionally I lost in 1/400th scale 2 Pan American 737-200's, a constellation, a 727-100. The 1/400th scale models are a total loss as well as the B-29 and the TU-114.

I'am going to play hell finding replacements not to mention the money involved. Oh well thats what I get for not have a more secure display for my models. carry one WR

That's sad to hear, especially for the WM's.

But honestly, what kind of walls do you have over there??

Red face unfortunately

this house is over 20 years old and is built with 2x4 lumber instead of brick and the walls are bowed in places and somewhat hollow. This house should have been built out of concrete block however it wasn't so thats why theres so much vibration from one room to the other. As I remodel this house (we have already put in close to 80,000 in new updates) I try to rebuild it stronger to help with the hurricanes which you all know have a habit of coming by from time to time. oh well.

The 727 has already been ordered however the 737's I'am working on. I'll call Luis at Adamjets and find out if he has or can get me replacements for the TU-114 and the B-29.

Anyway today hasn't been a total loss.........my cubana Viscount and my USAF RC-121-WA are waiting for me at Adamjets and Luis and Miami customs will be coming out with the Cubana Constellation soon. Something to look forward to at least. thx for thoughts guys, I appreciate it.

Additionally these airplanes will just go into the closet along with 13 other Western Models that I traded a dealer for and I didn't realize the so they had broken landing gear. (no matter WESTERN MODELS assurd me that they would send me landing gear for the repairs. That was over a year ago and I'am still waiting.)

If it weren't for the fact that I really like the Western Models I would sell them off. Inflight is a lot better deal. Alas I'll get over my loss and when the TU-114 and the B-29 are replacee this episode shall also pass into history.

So I now have 5 DC-7s and 5 Sratocruisers along with one Convair 440. Britannia and SIlver City model in need of gear. Outside of this those models are in perfect condition. More on this as things change. WR

5 years ago we moved from a 15 year old home to one built in 1965. Since it was a move to a smaller town from the Detroit metro area, the cost was only about 1/3 that of the Detroit area one and it is FAR better built.

Time is such a relative thing. They WERE better built "back then."

I can imagine how sad you are... Maybe if you have an insurance you can do something to replace some. ?

Red face regarding insurance

I like most home owners have home owners insurance however beings that I live here in south Florida my premiums are like 2000.00 a year and my deductible if like 11,000.00 Yeah, you read that right. The only time insurance is going to pay for me now is if the entire house gets destroyed.

I have already told my wife that if that happens again to us (we lived in Homestead when hurricane Andrew in 1992 destroyed our brand new home) I will not rebuild this home.......I'll do like what a lot of my neighbors in Homestead did, which is to take the insurance money and then sell the property as is. And we'll move to say North Carolina or somewhere like that.

Anyway this house made it thru the last two seasons very comparibly minor damage so we'll see how this season treats us.

In the interim thats for your thoughts.

For the fellow that asked about my collection I'll get on DAC later and list the 1/200 Inflight and Wesern Models that I have in my collection. wr

so sad...

what a very depressing incident, even though you might be able to get replacement for some of the losses, its still different then the one's youve bought before.

good thing though that this incident does not stop you to still go on collecting... what a very addictive hobby... just like what Santos hope you would complete your collection soon
