Yesterday I was able to get a damaged Western Models Antonov AN-22 for reasonable price. One side gear was broken off all three wheels. It was not so difficult to repair, but took a while...
A difficulty I encountered was the fragility of the metal alloy. Does anybody know, what kind of pewter WM is using? It is not soft, but rather hard and brittle. Looks like being much zinc mixed with tin. Greetings! Last edited by flieger; 11-06-2005 at 06:19 PM. |

WM uses a very hard high Zn content pewter more approaching regular diecasting alloys for the airframes. However with this greater strength can come brittleness - notably with their u/c casts - which definitely uses an even harder formulation.
Cheers!
