I had heard rumours of an ATL.98 Carvair but it seems that Phoenix will start with a Boeing 727-031 (as already posted into the new models forum) into the 1:200 market. Looks like the Herpa/Hogan mold.

The TWA livery is the 80s twin stripe.

Very hot looking. Are these all metal models (like the Herpa)?

Gah, aft cargo door's printed on. We always complain, the manufacturers never fix it. It's not a deal-killer, but it is annoying. If they'd simply LOOK at a photo of a -100, they just might realize that there's absolutely nothing there, and stop printing non-existent doors.
They do get "hey, wow" points for actually having the right tail logo on the PAA plane. I do wonder about the use of grey paint on the TW's wings. I can't find any good pics of TW 721 wings in twin-stripes, but I would not expect that is how it was. TW's -100's were delivered with bare wings w/corogard.

However, additional tooling has been returned to those who originally commissioned it and these releases are being now seen are those being releaed under the Phoenix name. Looks like for collectors we will see many good use issues of the 721 in 200 scale...finally...so long as prices are reasonable! I look for the FLY EASTERN and EAL hockeystick, personally!

Good find on the photo JETJHD.
I agree the FLY EASTERN 727-100 would be great to see along with the delivery colors of TW, UA, CO, DL, we can go on. But it is nice to see someone else capturing the 1/200 scale with new entries. I look forward to more.

The printing on these models looks much better than the Herpa releases IMO. Especially on the TWA. Niiiiiice!

Are these models 100% metal? Will they produced in a limited quantity?

JetJHD---look closely. The 721 has the same aft cargo door system as the shorter members of the 707 family. It is ONLY visible WHEN OPEN. Why? Because it's covered by the wing body fairing. The entire aft wing body fairing splits apart and slides aft on rails, exposing the door behind it. When the fairing isn't open, the door is absolutely utterly invisible because the wing-body fairing covers it completely.
Take a cose look at the photo---you can see the aft part of the wing body fairing has separated and moved aft, as it is further aft than normal. After the door closes, the wing-body fairing will slide forward into its normal position, covering the door completely without a trace of its existence. If someone wants to model a 721 with the door visible, they better cut the wing body fairing into several pieces and move the parts around. A few 721's from SMA were about the only ones to get this right, and it was much-discussed when they came out. Here's a pic of one where I've marked the latch/controls for the wing-body fairing, as well as the panel line where it separates to move aft. Also marked the location of the hidden cargo door behind the fairing. When the fairing slides aft a couple of feet, it reveals the cargo door, as in the photo a few posts ago.

Of course I find a good photo AFTER I post all that.
Here, this shows really well how the fairing splits and moves aft to reveal the door hidden behind it. http://www.airliners.net/open.file/422443/L The 727-200 (and larger 707's) of course has your more common aft cargo door, which is built into the fairing itself like most airliners.

Thank you for posting the upcoming model photos, I appreciate it. The original link began working again as well. Can anyone provide direction on these Phoenix models? When I can expect them to be available? A general price range? A reliable source and method to add to my collection? Thank you for your time in advance.

The retail price in Germany for the Phoenix models will be prox. 15,- Euro higher than Herpa. Are there any benefits of the Phoenix models to give these higher prices a reason? Limited edition?

David, thanks for clarifying the aft door. I can see now why they shouldn't have printed it on the model.
