Default Repair advice for Inflight LE model

I recently purchased an Inflight LE DC-10 model. During shipment, the #3 engine became bent about 40 degrees to the left. I briefly attempted to bend it back straight, but I heard and felt a slight crack and stopped. Although no crack is visible, I hesitate to do anything more because I don't want it to break off.

My initial thought is to try to heat the engine pylon to make it easier to bend back, but I'm not sure how to do this?

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Contact the shipper for a replacement model. Repairing will be difficult.

Cheers!

Thanks for the advice, but I had purchased this one second hand, not directly from a retailer. I thought about setting the model outside in the sun to warm up the metal to make it a little softer. Then, I got the idea of putting the model inside a car that was parked out in the hot summer sun. Fortunately, it worked. The metal got soft enough from the heat in the car, and I was able to bend the engine pylon back in place without snapping it off.

Yes I remember my baking car from living in the US! Just check the decals for "brittling".

Cheers!

Hi Colorado Flyer,

I am sorry to hear about the problem which you have with your model. If you are prepared to pay for the shipping both ways I shall get the model repaired for you unfortunately you would have to ship the model to us in the UK, or please send me a private email with a picture of the damage and I shall try to get advise on the repair for you.

Vector1,

Thanks for the offer and great customer service. At this time, I've got everything fixed to my satisfaction. The person I purchased the model from experienced some damage in the initial shipment, namely a broken nose gear and missing antenna on top of the fuselage. He repaired the nose gear, but it came loose again during the second shipment. Fortunately, I was able to easily repair the nose gear again. To be honest, I still can't figure out how the number three engine got bent out of alignment. The foam packaging in the box looks like it should have protected the model.

I purchased another Inflight LE DC-10 directly from Aviation Retail Direct and had no problems with this one.
