Default Note to the Douchtmans/Deutschetypes/Germans

Ok I found this while checking for mini coopers and Smartcars. I hope you guys are going to bug the heck out Herpa for releasing tug sets w/o the trains. Please, please I'm begging you guys to call Herpa and ask all sort of questions in your native language. I was hoping that Tom or Dr. Edmund would help to get more info about the plans for this mould from Herpa.

Yes, they are Z scale or 1/220, whitch makes this models just about 20% smaller than our 1/200 scale airplane models. Still it would be wonderful to have few in my future mediterranean/European fantasy Airport.

KG from Ulm (formerly KÖGEL-KAMAG) and Herpa have developed a surprisingly beautiful gem for friends of the smallest scale. KAMAG’s range of products consists of vehicles specialized in transporting heavy and bulky loads, mostly within the limits of company areas. KAMAG is one of the world’s leaders in the production of custom-made high-quality vehicles, especially in cases where reliability and precision are top priorities. Even the US air space authority NASA uses KAMAG vehicles for transporting its space shuttles on the ground. The train in this set transports KAMAG TowBear TT towing trucks of the latest generation. The towing trucks were designed in close cooperation with airlines, ground handling companies, and maintenance companies. This complete transport train set consists of eleven original Märklin and Herpa models, all in the 1/220 scale (Z-track). The Taurus locomotive carries a promotional KAMAG paint scheme. The engine and the transport wagons are original Märklin MiniClub models. The load, all original Herpa models, consists of three KAMAG TowBear TT models sporting the colors of the airports in Vienna (yellow), Hamburg, and Berlin (white), plus two silver Mercedes Benz Actros trailers with a promotional KAMAG design. This exceptional wonder of miniature model building, a masterpiece of technology, will be a genuine jewel – on your model railroad just as well as in the glass cabinet. The KAMAG transport train can be ordered until February 15, 2005. When the order books are closed, we will produce a one-time, limited edition, which will be delivered exclusively to Herpa retailers in June 2005.

Default Z Scale accessories

At 1/220 scale you can get away with it really. This scale, known as "Z" is made by Maerklin in Germany and many accessories (including little people) should be available. I'll investigate further and revet back to you.

Cheers!

Edmund

PS The ground equipment at FRA including buses should be a natural for models - and remember that FRA is on the DB system (including ICE trains, Type 3)

Yuri, are you looking for 1:220 scale people to make you feel you are bigger than you are? What scale are you anyway 1:150?

I have two modern urban trains plus trucks and few other things ready for my diorama. Planning to buy a house with a den/office/display/computer/shop in the next year or so. I'd hate to get the house, move the family, increase my income by 25%, meet new people and find that I don't have all the things for that darn airport.

OK, Jorge. gimme a some time before I get back to you with a smartass reply. I got you a couple of Cubana de Aviacion postmail sticker at the last show. I'll do my best to mail them very soon.

Is that true that one of your cousins was arrested for giving swimming lessons. The charges are that he was envolved in activities against the revolution.

Cubans Are good swimmers!!!

Back to the first post of this thread...Are those TugBears 1/220? Are they really different from the previous 1/200 version for airport dioramas?!?!?!!?!

They bother with 1/220 airport accessories for TRAIN SETS and don't bother making a universe of small vehicles for the discerning 1/200 diorama builder!?!?!?!

I am still waiting for my catering trucks, my 1/200 passengers are getting hungry and wondering where is their dinner!

I thought that Herpy already released a Tug in 1:200 - a Vienna Airport Kamag. Yellow, 1:200 scale, item # is 550796, price in D is €8,--.

If you get one of the "modern" railway stations in 1:220, i think chances are you would be able to kitbash it into a neat airport building. Afaik (I do HO, but I´ll check the LHS next time I´m there), you can also buy cars, buses, escalators, containers, streets, trees, houses, you name it.

Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know, and I have that yellow tractor, but I was wondering if this new 1/220 version for the tain set is really a different casting. If it is, then, why don't they bother re-casting other vehicles in 1/220 into 1/200 (the reverse) so we can have more to-scale fun with airport dioramas!?

I also have some oversized N-gauge 1/160 buses (Munchen) and cars, they look OK at first sight, but obviously oversized for a 1/200 airplane model.

I doubt that those towbear are a new 220 scale product. They must be the same mould made before being used/marketed as a Z scale vehicle. I was hoping to be able to get them separated from the train set. Their colors/scheme are really nice. I do remember when the the yellow one was released. A nice addition to a diorama, but pitifully with toytone's colors.
Last year I got few buses made by a German company (Rietze) Good products but not too realistic to use 160 (N) buses with my 1/200 737s. Some cars made by Butch do look okey! and the same goes with some Z made Marklin products.

Maybe our German speaking members could inquire more info from those companies. Herpa , Marklin and Rietze seems to be the most airport friendly makers at this moment. KATO is really good, but doesn't make any Z scale product, at least last time I checked.

If you guys call the companies in Germany the questioning would have a live dinamic/quality. Besides, the calls for you guys is going to be local/cheap. It would be nice if more questions are made to Rietze in regards of a Z scale in the future. Their products are really nice. I sent them an e-mail last year, but I got not reply. Here is their web site.

................c'mom chop- chop!! get to it.

I agree with you, that Towbear was in yellow plastic and they didn't bother to polish it or paint it at all. Herpa's 1/220 trucks or 1/160 cars are polished to get rid of that toying look, although with arguable success. The final solution would be to use higher density plastics or just spray paint them before they are packed and sold! (but the prices would then go up!)

Kato? they have this 1/150 range, and not extremely attractive to me. too many rough edges to compose a realistic diroama.

German brands like Viking, Busch, Rietze and Herpa do a good job complementing train sets and dioramas, so getting into more airport stuff in 1/200 should be an easy jump for them, especially for Herpa.

Which brings me back to "are the catering trucks released yet?" question again.
