Default Cam Uk

Has anybody had any communication problems with CAM UK? A year ago, I tried to do business with them and they plainly refused to answer my e-mails. I had to call them from Greece to find out what had happened to my order. It was a disaster.
Now, I desperately need a Comet and a Trident (DH Models) and they seem to be the only ones who carry them. I even reverted to my ancient fax machine to coax an answer from them but alas....
Can they be trusted?

Sounds pretty standard for them.

I don't think they are crooked or anything, but they are a very strange out-dated outfit that try to make you feel `lucky' to be dealing with them. They seem, or act, blissfully unaware that there is any competition, relying instead on newbie collectors plonking down money to join their club, having some exclusive lines they commission as `Skyline'/`DH'/`Historic'/`Heathrow' etc. that aren't -that- great, and having a certain clientele that gets models via subscription. In the old days when Woosters were actually (almost) acceptable models, they were pretty cheap there tho!

I only buy from them in-person if something really takes my fancy. If they don't have it in stock, I don't let them take my credit card details because it might be 3-4 years before they suddenly debit you and send the model, by which time, after trying to enquire in vain, you'd long given up trying to contact them and the thing surprises your credit card!

Thats my .02 pence.

I purchased a 1:200 Super VC-10 from them via their website a lonnnnng time ago. I gave them the info, they sent my merchandise quickly. It was a smooth transaction.

Seems theyre very hit or miss now by all the posts complaining about poor service. Better to try to speak \by telephone or walk in (should you be visiting).

Good Luck.

Default CAM UK "club"

I have bought a number of models from them, mainly because the focus of my collection is 60's-70's-80's British airliners. I joined the club - a waste of time unless you need two or three models and can't get them anyplace else. The club membership is Jan-1 thru Jan-1 - so if join on June 1 your membership is only good for six months. If you try to get in on one of their sales, the model you want is invariably out of stock, and the sale price applies only to stuff they have in stock during the sale.

They don't waive the VAT on exports either (that's 17 1/2 percent of the price). The web-site is a mess, completely archaic and as previously stated, no email support. Who do they think is going to buy a model sight-unseen, since so many of the listed models have the "image coming soon" placeholder?

I have to say though, that their return policy is very good. I got a ten-pound voucher as compensation for an order mistake.

Default CAM

Do you want to hear something positive about this company? Well it will not come from me! I used to deal with them for some time but I gave up in utter frustration.

Cheers!

I'm afraid I'm one of the negatives on this one, if CAM was the only model airliner shop in the world then we'd have no choice, but seeing as there is an aweful lot of competition out there I try and avoid them unless they have something in stock impossible to find anywhere else.
In addition to all the problems of poor communication, Baderesque delivery times etc. I also found their prices could be bizarre, they were one of the retailers feeding the price frenzy in "rare" 1/500 & 1/400 diecast models, some of their prices were almost obscene for models you could still find at pretty near original retail (or sometimes even less) if you took the effort to look around. Another retailer in that particular area was also very bad for this,

I just bought from them once ...
Not an order ... I just went there and took what I wanted ...
The customer support is something you have to see to belive: 15 days to reply a simple email.

Website is everything but easy to browse and the lack of good pictures is a good reason to check somewhere else for my shopping moods ...

Not to talk about the prices ....

If you read the customers feedbacks on the website, I think you'll wonder if they ae talking about the same shop !

Cam UK ? No thanks.

Ethan.

Any opinions about aviationmodels.co.uk ? They seem to carry the DH models too, though they are more expensive than CAM UK.
Thanks,
Y.

Well, CAM did reply, (I honestly didn't expect them to, ) probably my antedelluvian fax did its work, probably they read the stink I raised here, anyway I placed the order. (against your advice, people, but I do need this Comet and Trident.)
I've travelled in them, and I want to collect everything I've travelled aboard. Now I show my age, , ... I already have a Western Britannia, and nobody makes an Alitalia DC6 yet!
Thanks for the input,folks!

Well, my Comet and Trident arrived today, and I'm quite happy with them. Probably I was lucky, probably CAM needs a certain way to be addressed, anyway now I'm pushing my luck with a second order, Landors!
And, well, I'm not that junior, I have flown aboard Britannias and Comets, in their original liveries, and most probably a DC6B.
And my modest collection of 120 models in 1:400 and 1:200 contains very interesting items...
