Western Models
Metal - a highly durable type. Western has a big surprise coming up - I have seen the prototype and it's superb!
Cheers!

I bought a Western Models Eastern Air Lines 1049G Super Constellation around 1997 (before the engine nacelles had the shiny finish). One day I dropped the box onto a tile floor from a height of about 4 feet. When I opened the box the entire triple tail assembly was twisted around to one side. I didn't see the box hit the ground, but it must have hit on the side. I was able to bend the entire assembly back straight with my bare hands - it actually looked OK except for a couple of small rough spots. After that I thought maybe there was something like lead in the metal composition. At that time a guy named Mike (Tennessee, then Comfort TX) with Schabak USA was the exclusive North American distributor, and when I asked about the composition he didn't know.
That's been a number of years ago, and the composition might have changed since then.
Ethan, could your prayers involve tampo-printing?

my next question is... how do they compare to In-Flight as far as quality
and who sells them in the USA? ( I am not sure I want to go through Berlin.)

Spectre,
They're very nice models made by a family in the U.K. I have the Eastern Electra, and at one time had a Capital DC-4, AOA Stratocruiser, NW DC-7C and several Constellations.
IMO they don't have quite the level of detail as the Inflight models. They are decaled - I had a conversation with one of the family members about a year ago, and they just don't have the resources to get into tampo-printing.
My early Western Models had a bad problem with yellow decals, but the more recent releases are fine. They must have improved "decal technology".
Western has great variety, especially if you're into retro. Adamjets is the only U.S. distributor I'm aware of. You can also order directly from Western (although the website is a bit difficult to navigate):

western models
I have that Russian model in the picture....ironically I ordered it a few years back from Inflights' partner in England.
Took a while to get it but in person that is one beautiful model.
My suggestion would be to order from the American importer (western can provide you with their name ) and save yourself postage and any claim problems. As for the yellowing of the decals I also purchased a TU-114 that had yellowing of the decals and an old model maker told me to put the model in the sun for a day or 2 and it will 'bleach' it out.....and wouldn't you know it it worked!
I have about 30 of these WM models including several military models and they are all excellent. I soon will be ordering the last of the ones that I need which will include a B-36, C-124, WA-121-RC AND three PAN AMS the 727 billboard, Pan Am Clipper Dixie Boeing 314 seaplane and the Martin M-130 sea planes.
Which is why I need to get those Boeing 707's from Inflight.
I also have an extensive 1/400 collection but I have recently re-directed my collection and have narrowed down what I collect.
Thx for reading....winged racer

I've seen the Western B-36 and it is magnificent! I'm very jealous...
The TU-114 is also quite impressive. I would like to snag both of these someday.

Does anyone know if the yellowing of the Decals is still a problem with the newer Western models?
