Nobbe (and all those who are interested),
The Dragonair model is available from their headquarters. Cost is not much higher than a Hogan (in Hong Kong). The model is a Hogan mould, with Herpa details: painted wings, rolling undercarriage (w/hubs-decals). It comes in an improved plastic "sandwich casing"....but could be better. It is not a Hogan snap-fit standard, it is fully assembled from the factory. Available in KA hq also: 747Freighter in 1/200 (same standars I suppose) I am not sure if these models are sold to the public. Mine was bought within the offices, during office hours, by a KA staff member. Not sure how limited it may be, doesn't indicate anywhere in the box, so I believe it is widely available and there is plenty of stock. Will post pictures when I get home...BTW, it really is a very nice model...one MUST in a future 1/200 CLK diorama!

Hi B-huj,
The A330 is the one that I have been waiting for long time. I would like to know the price and whether any CX staff can get it for 20% off discount. Thanks KL729 |

Anyone have any contacts that might be able to purchase these? I will offer a reasonable price for either or both of these models - or perhaps someone might be interested in making a profit on them on Ebay. Thanks in advance to any interested parties.

Cathay staff cannot purchase the model, because it is not theirs, its DRAGONAIR's. Both are only available directly through Dragonair (KA). I got mine through friends, but not sure if they have a store that sells to the public (or a website, or anything ressembling "CXitement") The quality of the model is close to a Herpa NP, but sells at a price near Hogans, so if someone is on the way to make a fat profit, you will find out. I don't think it is limited, but wonder how many have been made. I believe it will become more and more available in time. Good luck! |

Hi B-huj,
Thanks for your reply. I have another question in regards to the NP CX744 1:200. I have one that I bought a year ago. I recently helped my friend buy one from another friend in HK at Cathay City. And we just noticed that the reg. no. is different. My CX is B-HUJ but the one that I bought for my friend is B-HUI. I also found that there is no silver paint on the edge of the wings. There are also finger prints on the fuselage that cannot be removed. I suspect that CX may now use Hogan mould instead of Herpa's for the new batch. The paint job also looks better on the old batch. Has anyone realized that ??? On the other hand, I wonder why the clear cockpit window will never fit into the mould. What I mean is there is always a visible gap on both side. I wish Herpa or Hogan will fix the problem. By the way, How would you compare this with your new Dragonair B747 cargo? Better quality? Regards, kl729 |

Hi Kl729,
I think i can answer your questions, according to CX, they said they have re-order B747-400 from herpa which have the rego B-HUI, and will replace HUJ from now on. I have both of the model, which look the same to me. So keep your HUJ, it is a rare model now!!! The dragonair B743 i had, i would say is a normal herpa np quality, with wing details. I got it from my KA friend, which cost me around HK$350, the 743 is slightly more expensive than A330 |

I have heard that the later batches of 747 have a slight problem with the cockpit. It was not so apparent on the earlier batches, as far as I can see. Cathay has released models of B-HUI in 1/400 and 1/500 (frankfurt main diorama), so it was a natural move to change the reg of the 1/200 version. As you pointed out, the earlier release (B-HUJ) has a diff wing and stab colour (which is actually wrong!). B-HUI has a better colour (chocomilk colour instead of silver). You can compare with photos of the actual planes. I don't believe B-HUJ has a diff wing colour than the entire Jumbo fleet, so I think they were supposed to "upgrade" on B-HUI. the green nose is supposed to look more "horizontal" and less "v-shaped" (as it was on the earlier B-HUJ) I do not own the second 747 because I don't think I "need" the same plane with another reg. But I believe the quality should have been pretty much the same, so you were just unlucky to get a flawed model. Which brings me back to the QC in China...Cathay does seem to sell some pretty flawed models (sealed in the box from factory). I got some with: scratches, unglued parts, wrongly glued landing gear, missing or too much paint...) Compare B-HUJ with Dragonair Cargo? I can't, because I don't have that one (yet). I have the A330-300, and I can compare it with the CX A330-300. They have pretty different printed details...one emergency door is smaller on the CX plane, while on the Dragonair it looks exaclty like the others....All the doors on the CX plane have more details, while the Dragonair doors have a diff shape. Both lack the "upwards" windowline so typical on all Airbuses, and the shapes of the windows are also Boeing (compare with a Dragon Wings 1/400 Airbus model...which does have that little "curve upwards" at the rear of the model. I think we will need some photos to illustrate. CX models are more expensive than Dragonair models (if you purchase directly from them...) So I guess the latter gives more value for money! |

Hi CPA747,
Oh dame it....I sold the old one on ebay....hummmm anyway its just a matter of reg. no. Not a big deal to me....BTW I have also back ordered a B742 Air HK and a CX A340 which looks much better than their A330 with more details on the engines and its got the frame on the cockpit window. The box inside also looks more secured and protective to the model, just like the herpa premium one. Thanks kl729 |
