Default TWA final scheme and DC-9's

At one point, I had the Gemini 200 version of the TWA 727. I sold it because the red was brighter than the other models and decided to pickup Waffle's IF200 version. I know the Gemini 727 is preferred but to me, the IF version is fine and matching the color is more important. I always thought TWA's final scheme was one of the better ones...it's a shame it was so short lived.

Nice! I love the shot of the same types but different liveries lined up nose to nose.

You of course made clear your preference, but I'd have stuck with the GJ 727 over the IF200. Just how off was the red on the GJ?

I agree with you on TWA's final scheme. A very classy and unique design. I built a 1/144 scale Minicraft MD-80 kit in this scheme when I was in 5th grade or so. I've still got that model somewhere, though it's suffered some damage over the years and the blue paint I used for the belly was much too light in color.

It was off enough where I could notice it while standing from a distance. I'm not one to knit pick flaws that you have to zoom in on with a camera but if I can see it from 5 feet away then it's a problem for me. I should have taken pictures before I got rid of it but I never did. I thought I did but I can't find them at the moment at least. I got rid of the Gemini a year ago.

If I had made a model in the 5th grade then I would probably still have it displayed -- light blue and all.

I love my GJ200 TWA 727, actually one of my favorites. I personally could not imagine selling that, especially for the IF200 one. I have my GJ 727 parked right next to my GJ TWA 757, and Jetx MD80 and never noticed any color differences.

Here it is. A bit rough around the edges. I built this in the final year or so of TWA. Not even sure I was aware at the time that the airline was about to be history.

I would have loved to have been able to do that as a 5th grader. I guarantee I wouldn't have had the patience.

I was the kid in Kindergarten who spent 3x as long on coloring as the rest of the kids to make sure I stayed within the lines...

I agree that the final TWA scheme was very nice. I love the DC-9 family shot.

Here is a picture of my models inside my dusty detold case. Only one not pictured here is my IF200 TWA 747 which is on the top shelf along with my AA MD80, eagle ERJ (original release), Porter dash 8, original release SWA 737, and the new SWA 738.
Also note I have a couple TWA boarding passes, and what's cool about them is they were for flights on the actual aircraft that I have models for. My flight on the IF200 DC9 N929L was flight 658 from ORD to STL. I have also been on the recent GJ MD80 release N903TW which was flight 636 from ORD to STL. Pretty cool!

To the OP, I do now see what you mean about the slightly brighter shade of red on the GJ 727. IMO not something you notice unless really looking for it, plus its not a huge deal to me anyway.

I see you have the elusive solid titles L-1011. TWA,one of the airlines that is missed.

Yeah I have had that one for many years now. I have noticed that you can't find that one anywhere now. Literally never shows up on eBay either. Here is a picture of my IF200 heavies and the DC9. Again, don't mind the dust, I really need to take that case apart and give it a good cleaning.
