Default UAL Caravelle

Can anyone tell me about Western's UAL Caravelle? Also, any U.S. retailersthat carry this? It's my favorite aircraft in my favorite livery, but I'd like to find out any quality issues before I plop down the dough. Thanks.

The Western model is nice. Contact Mike at mike@western-models.co.uk who can give you details and a price. I would order direct from Western Models.

Cheers!

I bought this model two or three years ago from The Airplane Shop. My dad was a pilot for United and flew as a Flight Engineer on the Caravelle, so I am very happy to have it in my collection.

United's Caravelles were unique in several ways including the lack of the dorsal fin across the top of the fuselage from the vertical stabilizer. The model, however, has the dorsal fin. It was probably not worth modifying the mould to correct this inaccuracy. The Aeroclassics model of the United Caravelle in the 1:400 scale also has this problem.

The decals on this model are nice, but the blue color is darker than it should be. The blue used in United's "Mainliner" scheme of the 1960's was more of a sky blue. The blue on the model is much darker, almost a navy blue.

Despite these two problems, the model is very nice and should be a part of any United collection.

I understand that the UAL Caravelle from Western is a new casting with new decals. Check with Mike at Western models. (see his address in posting above).

Cheers!

Please ignore my previous post. I was talking about a resin model in the 1:100 scale by Atlantic Models. I forgot which forum I was on! I'm very interested in a diecast 1:200 model of the Caravelle, and I will definitely be contacting Western on this one.

I apologize for the waste of bandwidth.

Our United Caravelle will NOT have the dorsal fin and will have the large cockpit windows.
It will be available next month (January 2003)

Merry Christmas and a Happy and Peaceful New Year
