Default Answers to DLH Modell Edition Discolouration IMPORTANT Part 2

As a scientist, this is "a three pipe problem" but responses to date tentatively could indicate:

. That the masterbatches of white ABS with additives bought in by Herpa might have been of inconsistant quality. It is just possible that UV stabilizers etc. might have been missing from some batches or that some of these masterbatches were "contaminated" in production. Poor quality masterbatches of ABS can easily result in models with discolouration problems.

. The foam packaging problem might be the result of poor quality ABS with "good" foam or poor foam with "good" ABS.

. The models which are still undiscoloured should remain that way (since they were made from "good" masterbatch polymer) if kept out of direct or indirect sunlight and other sources of UV - also bright light. Remember UV can be reflected from some surfaces!

I STILL NEED TO KNOW IF ANYBODY HAS SUCCESSFULLY DISPLAYED DLH MODELL EDITION A/C WITH NO DISCOLOURATION - MOST PARTICULARLY the 747's, "Berlin", "Bonn" and "B-W". Note that "Expo 2000" is exempt from this severe discolouration problem (as a totally different polymer system was used for this and current "Premium" models) but must still be displayed as above for an indefinite shelf life.

Cheers!

Yes. All three are still white to this date (as with the rest of the collection). They have been displayed in black three walled cabinets with glass doors. Hope this helps.

Default Undiscoloured Models

Thanks for the information. Yes the black cabinet sides are probably absorbing the damaging UV. Is the cabinet in a dark place please - oh and is the glass UV resistant?

Thanks again!

Not quite 1:200 but related:
I wonder...have there ever been any reports of the 1:160 Ju-52s deteriorating? I have the original Lufthansa and the Swiss Ju-air one, but both are in good nick in their boxes.
(I -just- found, finally, and ordered, a purple Milka example...
after years of searching)

Don't know/remember if UV treated, but they are slightly tinted. The cabinets are out of direct sunlight.
