Default Tu-144LL Flying Laboratory (NASA/ANTK)

I am collecting as many illustrations and details on this unique a/c as possible in connection with a sensational upcoming diecast 1:200 Model.

Already, we have gained a lot of information but leads to any further details (including the fate of the Tu-144LL) would be most welcome.

For reference, the Tu-144LL was by far the most potent and largest SST made with 4 x 55,000 + + NK 321 "augmented turbofans with reheat" and capable of reaching Mach 2.5 within 12 minutes of the commencement of its take off run!

Cheers!

I'd buy it....I have a lot of articles on the Tu-144 including the LL series.

One of my favorite planes

Default Tu-144LL

PLEASE e-mail me any Tu-144LL references which I'll pass on to Mike at Western. Many thanks - the model will be superb - we are putting a huge effort into it! (ANTK have been really helpful re plans but anything extra will be much appreciated).

Thanks again,

Cheers!

Will this model have the drooped nose/extended canards?

Default Tu-144LL

My model will have the raised nose and retracted canards format - the normal "parked up" configuration of the a/c. Photos exist in the other mode but normally during ground movement.

Cheers!

I look forward to seeing your airplane. There was one available at CAM in metal in both configurations.

Any idea on price and availablility of your airplane?

I love my Entex 1/144 airplane...although its not built up yet...and its plastic.

Default Tu-144LL

The new model is being made by Buzzbee to "museum standard" - I'll see that a picture(s) gets on the forum when the a/c is complete.

Cheers!

Default 1:1 Tu-144LL

Just to let you know that my model is being made by Buzzbee using the Western model as the base a/c. The Tu-144LL was considerably "beefed up" over the regular D model as made by Western and this is being reflected in the model. For reference, the Tu-144LL was the largest and fastest SST ever built and is currently preserved at ANTK near Moscow. Here are some 1:1 pictures of the a/c:

Edmund,

Is Western also issuing the Tu-144LL, or just the two versions that have already come out (nose down and nose up)?

I'm looking forward to seeing what you and Martin conjure up.

Default Western Tu-144LL

Yes eventually and I am helping them. My model with Martin is a "one-off" and very much more detailed though.

Cheers!

I dont know if anyone remembers this, but believe it or not; this same airplane was up for auction on Ebay last year...Wish I had the 7,000,000 to buy it..What a beautiful airplane!

Default Tu-144LL

I have NASA contacts at Dryden and Edwards determining the current preservation status of this a/c. The Tupolev Bureau is reluctant to have the a/c leave Russia complete with its NK-321 engines.

I'll keep you posted.

Cheers!

PS If you buy a 1:200 model Tu-144 get the Western model. There is another floating around sold by CAM (made by Historic) which is wildly inaccurate.

Heh heh I just ordered the Western Aeroflot 144 but from CAM-UK*. I hope they send me the right one.

*Had to make use of my `membership' that I was suckered into because it was 1/2 price year-end, and made my Skyline Antilles Shorts flying boat cheaper....tho I still haven't got it.

Next up for me in 2003, Western-wise, will be the Martin China Clipper and KLM Viscount if the latter has new generation decals (?)
Unless the Canadair North-Star and Air Canada Viscount appear...

Default Buy Direct

Don't get Western Models from CAM - go to Western direct. Contact Mike at Western.

Cheers!

Yes had I not been suckered into CAM-UK membership I would (i.e. I will, as of 01/01/03) purchase Western direct.
Every little helps.

What was the price direct from Western. I was once a CAM member when I purchased a 1/200 VC-10.

Default Western Models (contact information)

To obtain models direct from Western contact Mike@western-models.co.uk. For the Tu-144D, ask whether you want the "nose down, canards deployed" a/c preserved at Sinsheim or the "nose up, canards retracted" a/c preserved at ANTK, near Moscow.

Cheers!

PS His Tu-114 model is superb!

Model looks great "letting it all hang out" as well "folded up"! It would be hard to pick one.

I'd get both! They are both excellent models!

Default Tu-144LL

I've just had an email from Edwards AFB who do not know the fate of the Tu-144LL. Now I'm going to see what I can squeeze out of ANTK, Moscow.

Cheers!

Default Tu-144LL - pictures of actual a/c

Here are some good pictures of the a/c. See:

http://members.lycos.nl/peterdv22/im...es/image60.htm

http://www.bird.ch/Russians/Tu144/TU144P11.html

http://www.bushcat.com/mpics/tu144.html

I hope that these are interesting. The main difference in the "LL" version is the change in engines to the NK-321 turbofan as used in the Tu-160 "Blackjack" bomber. The engine nacelle rears are "bulged" over the standard Tu-144D to take this engine.

The Tu-144LL is preserved at ANTK, Russia.

Cheers!
