Default Other Old Western Models ...

I don't want to bore anyone wit retro models but I really enjoyed the WM collection shown by T7_4ever and I know that some of us appreciated, here are a few pictures of what I have.
Nothing exceptional, simply I was there when the models were released.

Note : The TWA Constellation has a speedpack.

Jean Pierre.

They are not boring but great! I own about eight old Westerns. I bought three through the mail and the remainder I bought in person at shows, and from a collector. My regret is not buying the Panagra DC-3 when I could have. I did buy the Eastern Connie in the bare metal finish you also have. The only fault I have with it is the red instead of blue titles. Still, I am happy to have it. Thank you for posting.

With these Westerns, you do spoil us.

Not only a massive collection of Air France models but loads of Westerns as well.

As for being boring, to me that's yet another Emirates 777 being released.

I found that the Western Models yellowed fast.
The yellowing you find at decaled models.
Is that still the case ?

I've read a lot about Western Models' decals yellowing and I've seen many photos on eBay of yellowed models. I guess I'm lucky or maybe the Southern California climate, but my 15 or so Westerns have not significantly changed over the years.
Sometime ago someone commented on this forum that the decals yellow less outside of the box. I have no way of proving that idea but it might be a factor as mine have all been displayed behind glass.

Personally I don't like it when people crash into someone's collection-thread with their own pictures - but that's just my 2 pennies...

Jean Pierre - that's a beautiful line up of those old WM props and jets! Wish I could have a WM Lufthansa Viscount. Twice I managed to buy one on ebay - and twice the model arrived with broken off main gears...

Long practice in the kit building world for "de-yellowing" decals has been to tape them on a (dry) Southern exposure window and let the sunlight "bleach out" the yellow over a few weeks. I've done this a few times and it works fairly well. I don't think it's as effective on a completed model though as the backing paper seems to contribute to the process in some way. It's likely that storing the Western models in the dark has contributed to the yellowing--- shame really.

BTW, thanks for posting the great photos OP!

Thank you my friends and thank you T7_4ever for having shared the photos of your WM collection.
It was your idea.
Some of these models will never be done again and I feel lucky to have a few of them.

Yes, these are some fine looking classic Western Models that Jean Pierre has in his collection and we also look forward to seeing some of yours as well, Retroguy in the new year.

I am with you on that. Always cool and refreshing to go back in time and seeing these models that were hand made by Western in the UK.

You are most welcome and I apologize for the delay in posting my photos. I just wanted to make good on my word I made earlier this summer, hee hee! While it's still 2014. I also want to express my thanks/kudos to you with your impressive and absolute mint looking Western models/photos.

It's true in what you stated = some of these fine models will never see the light of day again, but for those collectors who do have them in their collections and post/share them on the DAC to enlighten the newbies or bring back memories for the seasoned collectors = that's what this hobby is all about, and I salute you Jean Pierre and other's who have done the same. Cheers! T7

2015 is going to be a "Retro Year" for us retro collectors... it must be....IF200 started with their amazing Convairs...now theres a WM DC-8 mould.....pretty much has been done right?!...so manufacturers need to go back, to the golden age...they have to...right?!...of course they'll keep on releasing 777s, 747-400s, but hoping for new blood, meaning new moulds!

I have to take my humble WM Collection out of their boxes, trust me, nothing big as those 114, Globemasters, etc though....just the regular models, you'll be disapointed guys.

I have two Western models and I hope you don't mind me posting here Jean-Pierre on your thread. They are not that old last five years or so. I love your TWA with the speed pack that Qantas used as well with early Connies. Anyhow here is some close ups of WM CA 14F L-749 named "Charles Kingsford Smith" note the blue stripe which later became red on later Connies, an exclusive for Sydney model show at Bankstown Airport by CAM Australia about four years ago , and WM CA 9N Ansett -Australia National Airways L188 which colours closely resemble Braniff. Always wounderd if there was a connection there with Sir Regional Ansett & Braniff. Anyone know?

Your photos are welcome.

These models are New Western Models, built in China, they are very nice, the Constellation nose landing gear is something that will be difficult to surpass.
Be careful, very fragile …

It is said that this Electra is the best ever produced, I only have the old one with decals, made by Old Western Models.

Thank you for sharing your photos.

Jean Pierre.

Thumbs up Re: Other Old Western Models ...

Most impressive display of WMs, Jean Pierre. I see the CPA Britannia in one of the shots looking all regal and stately. I almost bought one of those, and if I did, that likely would have started a WM collection for me as well.

Very nice collection, Jean Pierre. Thank you for sharing it with us. Unfortunately I don't have any original Western models in my collection.

I do however have a few of the new Western Models Connies and Electras. They are very nice models in their own rights, but I do wish the Connies had the engine details of the originals.

The Electras on the other hand are one of the finest models of that type on the market. I have quite a few in my collection and enjoy them all.

Thank you for your interest in this modest WM collection, I am sure that some of us have something bigger and more interesting.

When WM came to the market they had practically no competitors, then came Jet Wings, DH Models, Metal Air Models, Skyline, Historic, Heathrow Models and things became very difficult for the collector.
I bought some of these models.

It is true that New Western Models have released very nice prop liners, the Curtiss Commando was a very nice idea too and it would be great to see more Constellations.
By the way, Martin (Small World) makes decals to improve the nacelles of the Constellation.

Classic airliners such as this DC 8 are most welcome, maybe one day, a true B 707-120 ?

Jean Pierre.

I have several sets of Martin's excellent decals applied to some of my Connies. They really do enhance the appearance of the newer Western Connies.
