Default C'mon IF200, give us a Saul Bass 747!!!

IF200 (or BB), if you are listening, please give us a United Saul Bass 747!! Such an iconic livery, and sorely absent from the 747 lineup. I've been hoping this model would be released for years, but no luck yet. I'm certain other DAC members feel the same way.

So many requests have been answered, I can't imagine we will be standing by much longer... Definitely a must have if and when this bird is released in 1/200.

The only United Airlines livery that I like is the one called "Battleship", I loved how the B727 and B744 looked sporting those colors. If Inflight does a new version of the UA B744 Battleship, just like they did with KLM, I will buy it for sure.

Saul Bass would be great.... andI think it looks better on the 747-100. How about a Landor on the same model while we are at it?

A United Boeing 747-100 in Saul Bass colors would be really fantastic !

BUT a BOAC Polished Boeing 747-136 is my absolute number one !

Absolutely top of my wants !!!

Sorry guys.
A Saul Bass 747 would be nice, but a Tulip 747-400 would be GREAT.

Do the Tulip first, then do a Saul Bass.

Has anyone collected a United Saul Bass fleet ? I would love to see the pics.

Why is there a difference in United font size ? Are there reasons for this ? Is one more accurate or popular then the other ?

It'd be a miracle if they painted the lower half of the plane right. I don't think I've ever seen a Saul Bass 747 done right in any scale/company.

(look at the right-angle separation between the white and grey below the wing leading edge--it doesn't simply "go straight back" like most schemes)

....yes, I would get one of these (maybe two if they released both the small and large titled versions as per the B74SP).....I think a B744 would be awesome too in this very bright livery.....it could join my other UA B744 metal diecasts (battleship, tulip and merger).........

...I too would love to see someone's 1:200 Saul Bass fleet- now that would look amazing ......

Well you know what they say, you want a job done properly, better do it yourself. Found these old United threads.

I feel a new fleet build in the near future, very near

http://www.diecastaircraftforum.com/...ss-models.html

And while it's 400 scale, this was a very very very good read and has pics of various aircraft/schemes United has used over the years

Hopefully IF200 is listening, and 2014 or 2015 will be the year this glaring omission in the 747 lineup will be finally rectified.

I think I get what he is saying...he would get everything Pan-Am related, within reason, but not necessarily anything 747SP related. In other words, he would purchase a Pan-Am 747SP, but not a Korean Air 747SP. However, he would purchase a Korean Air 747-300 because he collects 747's. Maybe? I dunno...

My own personal opinion, I believe there won't be any classic Jumbo's released in 2014 (unless they're announced soon, we in North America won't see it until very late or early 2015). The few classic 747's they have released in the new mold, again my opinion, have been mediocre at best (from what I've seen in person, a few United's, American, etc...nothing that hasn't preventing me from buying it, but more of a "why did they do that?" moment...). I'll be happy to wait and even pay a few extra bucks to get what I feel are small things squared away in the mold and printing. Not for nothing, but it would be nice to get nose cone details printed like Gemini 200's have on a few of their models...I think it'll make the front section look better.

As mentioned above, there's a chance the lower wouldn't be done correctly given that Inflight has made, at least in my opinion, more significant mistakes on their 747's in the past.

Whatever...

Exactly correct. Everything Pan Am related, but only 747s (not SPs, at least not yet). While I find the technology and history behind the SP interesting, visually the design (owing to the drastically truncated fuselage) is not, to me, particularly appealing. I doubt I will collect any models of the 747-8 for the same reason (the beauty of the original design has now been lost due to the drastically stretched fuselage).

Everyone has different collection criteria. I'm not a hoarder, so I have developed a fairly strict collecting criteria (if a model doesn't fit it, I don't buy it).

The only exceptions are a few odd models (Eastern L-1011, Air Canada L-1011, RCAF 707 etc.) that I like, or have personally flown on.

Anyway, I started this thread to encourage IF200 to finally release a model that is obviously of interest to many of my fellow DAC members, not to defend my personal collection criteria.

If you said a 747-200 that would be different, but you said 747. That includes the SP, which has been made. Making the point of your thread moot.

No need to defend your personal collection criteria; I wasn't knocking it. And I get what you're saying. I was merely amused by your string of seemingly contradictory statements.

Somewhat curious how this thread got derailed, first on the subject of "why don't I just buy an -SP", and now a discussion about DC-10s and KC-10s.

Back on topic: I'd like IF200 to produce a model of a United Saul Bass 747-200 or -400, to fill this glaring hole in the classic 747 model lineup. Anybody else agree with me?
