Default VOTING: Next Gemini200 LOCKHEED L-1011 TRISTAR 500 Release

As Gemini200 has announced the gray Royal Air Force L-1011-500 as their 10th L-1011 release for January 2013, I thought we should add some hints and ideas for the next release on their great L-1011-500 mould.

Gemini200 already brought us the Royal Air Force in their white colours, Delta Air Lines, Air Canada, Pan Am, American Trans Air as well as British Airways in both, the 'Union Flag' and the 'Landor' livery, and disregarding the latter two releases of British Airways they pretty much hit the nail on its head concerning the placement of the windshield (which seems to be quite a difficult task on 1/200 L-1011 models)...!

This voting shall be a "One out of Five" - with a certain concentration on original factory customers for the -500 as well as major airlines. Enjoy - and let's tell Gemini what we want next!

ALIA Royal Jordanian Airlines delivery colours

BWIA British West Indian Airlines delivery colours

BWIA West Indies Airlines post-restructuring colours

AIR TRANSAT

UNITED AIRLINES

You guys really think they would produce a Saul bass L1011? I personally don't see that happening considering how that was as far as I remember a very short lived temporary thing that resulted from a merger. Not only that, but it's an ugly combo ;-)
I know it's already been done by IF200 ( but lacking details), I would like TWA L1011's by GJ.

Love to see that Saul Bass on a DC-10, maybe after the famed UAL232 piloting job by Al Haynes & Denny Fitch. As far as the L-1011, another Pan Am please!

The Lingus would be nice but it's not a 500 series as per the OP's poll. I know the British Airways Negus 500 has been done but I'd also like a "British" logo'd one.

First of all, Best wishes to everybody.

The BWIA British West Indian Airlines delivery colours is a must have!

Don't we already have the Lingus Tristar an Saul Bass DC-10 from Inflight?

@ Big Al,

Thanks for pointing that out!

Aer Lingus never leased or operated the short-body L-1011-500, same goes for Iberia, so these are not part of this poll. However, both airlines had the long-body L-1011 on lease - and, by the way, both models were already made by Inflight, so watch out on the collectors' market if you are interested in getting one of these.

@JTS,

None of the 1/200 manufacturers ever made a United Airlines 'Saul Bass livery' L-1011. Inflight, in particular, only has the long-body L-1011 mould on file. United operated six short-body L-1011-500s which had been part of the Pacific network deal with Pan Am (as well as several B747SP aircraft). TWA, on the other side, has already been made by Inflight in any colour scheme they had (TWA operated long-body L-1011s only, so nothing for Gemini). You were probably mixing up things here.

@ crisdean,

Hum... Royal Jordanian is included (in delivery scheme, i.e. ALIA). The later Royal Jordanian livery was already (well) done by JC Wings in 2012.

@ All,

Thanks for you guy's input so far. Seems that United is currently on top position, closely followed by BWIA in delivery scheme.

Have fun and keep on voting!

Ahh yes my mistake I didnt see it said 500 series only. However though, didnt Gemini release a long version Delta L1011? So it wouldnt be coimpletely out of the question I suppose. Even though I like Inflight models, they just lack sooo much detail that you get with the less expensive Gemini models. Thats why I continue to hope that they release models that Inflight has already done. I for one would certainly buy them.

James,

it is definitely not out of question that Gemini may do another long-body L-1011 in the future. Their interest in the Delta releases, however, was probably based on a licence/marketing agreement they obviously have with the airline (just like they do have with Hawaiian Airlines), so they 'rented' the long-body L-1011 mould from Inflight particularly for these two Delta L-1011-1 releases. I doubt, however, we'll ever see Inflight renting Gemini's short-body L-1011-500 mould... but... never say never. What I would almost exclude is that Gemini would do an L-1011 release already done by Inflight. As I already suspected, the Delta releases were a special topic (Inflight did the "Delta Belle" L-1011 before); I don't think they would re-do something like Gulf Air, TWA, Saudia, LTU, Aer Lingus or Iberia... unless it is a completely different livery, of course. Saudia's last colours on the L-1011-200 coming to my mind or an Eastern L-1011 in polished finished with the small cheatline underneath the cabin windows (which - still - requires Inflight to modify their L-1011 tooling so that polished finished is being enabled). Loooong story.

Well, again, it is a poll on the next -500 release. So, a long-body L-1011 in Air Lanka colours does not fit in here... and the short-body -500 of Air Lanka was already released by JC Wings a couple of months ago...

@ 1011markus,

Good point! Unfortunately, Gemini200 has not been that much engaged concerning new releases on their L-1011-500 mould during the past two years, so I doubt they will do five per year (which actually means they would have to release one L-1011-500 every two months). This actually might be reason that so many -500 releases were made by JC Wings & Co...!

@N553UA,

Both, TWA twin-globe and PSA were already done by Inflight (and, by the way, are long-body L-1011s again). The PSA release, however, featured a promotional version of the PSA L-1011 with all customer logos on the fuselage. Reason was Lockheed sued PSA for breach of contract, and PSA countersued. After a series of negiotiations, PSA sent a/c N10114 on a worldwide promotional tour for Lockheed. As a sidenote, Inflight applied a wrong logo to the line of customer logos on that model (was a rather horrible error). So, in the end, we might see a "regular" PSA L-1011 later by Inflight. However, I guess it's a "maybe". But, again, it's not a -500 model.

@ All,

Some 42 hours after the poll started, UNITED AIRLINES can defend its 'pole position' at around 43% of the total vote, BWIA 'delivery colours' is second with a remarkable third of the votes, and the later BWIA 'Bwee colours' as well as AIR TRANSAT are in third position.

Keep on voting, guys! Even more votes will make the final result a representative poll!

Just a short "heads-up" concerning the current vote as we're approaching the "One Week from Poll Start" mark:

We actually filed 69 individual votes already. The current ranking says:
  1. United Airlines 'Saul Bass colors' at 46%
  2. BWIA 'delivery colors' at 29%
  3. BWIA 'Bwee colors' & Air Transat at 10%
  4. ALIA 'delivery colors' at 4%

Looks pretty good! Let's see if we can create some more participation. Thanks to all of you who already took part!

FOLLOW-UP

Three days before poll closure, the number of participants has gone up to 80 voters. During the past two weeks, the results have finally cleared-up and consolidated the shares.

The pre-final result to be reported to Gemini200's representatives (depending on last-minute pariticipation, of course) is as follows:

1. UNITED AIRLINES 'Saul Bass': 47.50% (38/80 votes)
2. BWIA 'delivery colours': 28.75% (23/80 votes)
3. AIR TRANSAT: 11.25% ( 9/80 votes)
4. BWIA 'last' colours: 8.75% ( 7/80 votes)
5. ALIA 'delivery colours': 3.75% ( 3/80 votes)

Makes a, finally, clear voting in favour of a United Airlines L-1011-500, followed by BWIA in delivery colours (and as already done in 1/400 scale, so Gemini might have a certain 'easy job' on this one in 1/200).

You know what, Riu, I am absolutely with you! I was so much delighted when that TAP L-1011-500 was made on behalf of OceanWings down in Portugal - but when I saw the pictures of the actual model (and later in person), it was such a disgusting and disappointing thing. Overall, the TAP release was nice but the windshield was rather printed onto the roof!

That's why I am still hoping Gemini200 will do us a favour and release a really good TAP L-1011-500 in the future. I mean, Ocean Wings is now out of business and their L-1011 was really bad. Perfect conditions for Gemini to release one.

Concerning House Colours: Lockheed never had a Dash 500 painted in those. :-(
