Default Darnit! Caught the 1:200 bug!

Well after collecting tons of 1:400s, I couldn't resist picking up
a few 1:200s. Ack, this hobby just got more expensive.

Air Canada B777-300ER
KLM B777-300ER
South African A340-600

Awesome start to your 1/200 fleet! Yeah, once you get the 1/200 bug it's going to be a challenge with some self-restraint everytime a new 1/200 model is released! Good luck and all the best! Cheers! T7

It gets even more expensive, the 1/200 diecast bug, its like hell, with heavenly things(planes),£70,£80,90,100,120,300-400, but beware, watch out for the premiums, £400-500 , even though theyre plastic.
My local model store is closing down, they selling a herpa prremium klm 747 for £75 and i just got it, just kidding, who sellls a premiuk for £75!(nice people)
Regards
Kris
P.s. Enjoy your hobby while it lasts, try to save some money, so you dont end up a hobo

great start to your collection! if you stick to plastic/resin models there is not a huge difference in price to some 1/400 models. you can get a lot of plastic models cheap on ebay. only if you get into diecast does it get expensive! i too have the skymarks klm 773er. also the gemini diecast and ppc plastic too.

You might want to get a glass display case. The 1/200 bug gets worse!

I love every model of your collection.

And really, the A 340 is a fantastic plane.

Sorry for saying that, so many memories ...

Great start to your 1:200 hangar mate! Yes it can get expensive, especially if you go the die-cast way. I started like you with a handful of "garden variety" 1:200 plastics and then I was after a certain model/livery but it only came in die-cast and then BAM! ... the virus takes hold. Mind you I still collect both platics and die-casts and you cant beat 1:200s really for their uncompromised detail on the majority of models. Even the ones that dont have the detail you can add easily later.

Yes, the A340 is a great aircraft ... I wish more A342s and A343s were released. Be nice to see a South African A342/3 released. I like the 1:200 Air France A343 (I got that one but REALLY want the one in new AF colours). Same for the Iberia A343 ... that is a hard bird to find Anyone got these two for sale/trade.swap ....?

Great start to your 1:200 collection! With a little detailing, the KLM B773ER can look as nice as the Hogans. This is what I did to mine. (Hope you don't mind my posting a photo of it on your thread.)

Very cool collection I love both plastic and diecast planes I really wish the producers who make these plastic planes like hogan wings and skymarks continue to upgrade and add more details I have seen hogan upgrading some of the details on there planes. hope they add more in the future, not only hogan but skymarks too. I started out myself with 1/400 and now trying to get more 1/200 myself.

That is lovely, KLM4me!

The great advantage to 1:200 plastics is ones ability to 'enhance' the model -- or not -- as even out of the box, many of them look quite smart. With a bit of minor modelling skills though, one can also add aerials (from Martin Beacom) and the red anti-collision beacons (MV Products from Walthers) and a bit of enamel paint to the landing gear struts. After that, they really start to take on the appearance of a diecast costing many times more.

Yes, plastic 1:200's can be VERY flexible and are special because of it.

Yup, they do require a bit of space. As I'm acquiring and re-acquiring models, I am keeping that in mind. Just be thankful you're not collecting 1:100 scale or larger!

Thank you, I appreciate your kind words. Adding aerials and beacons is a bit intimidating to me, as I fear getting glue on areas that shouldn't have it. lol.

As to the landing gear struts: I finally bit the bullet yesterday and painted the landing gear struts on a Hogan B772. Wasn't so bad at all! I just had to be careful not to get paint on the inside of the main landing gear doors.

Welcome to the wonderful world of 1/200! the upside of collecting 1/200 is the fact that you are going to become far selective and wiser in your choices than you ever had, which means you will put even more efforts in quality and criteria over quantity. I only have 11 models in this scale, but every piece has that "star of the show" sort of value to it unlike when i was collecting in 1/400.... I absolutely love it...

Lovely start to your 1/200 collection.Space can be an issue when you collect larger scales...Space for the boxes as well as the models. But that wont stop you once you have started...

I thought (w/ doubt) that i would NEVER buy 1/200 due to size & cost, BUT they do have much more details than most 1/400.
My collection has also gotten away; even w/ so many in my collection i still have 10 more inbound...is there a cure?

HI:

Nice starting birds for the 200 scale. One thing I can tell you, get worried when you get your shelf/displaycase like this.....

It is the main inconvenience of the 1:200 scale or big models, the lack of space is a headache for me now.

Another potential 'cure' for running out of space with 1:200 models is to not buy A340's, A380's, 777's, etc. Stick with 737's and A319/320's. Better still . . . develop a penchant for regionals! With those you can not only save space, but save money . . . to buy another one!
