Default What's with the 1:200 Delta L1011 "boom"!?!

Hey everyone,

Has anyone else noticed the enormous quantity of 1:200 "Gemini Jets" Delta Widget L1011 models for sale on eBay lately?? And so cheap! A few months ago we would see maybe.. one for sale each month... and the few listed usually sold for almost $250-$300!

I'm assuming Gemini Jets re-released it? Does this happen often with models? The same thing happened recently with the 1:200 "Gemini Jets" Delta 777-200LR but to a lesser extent... and with the 1:200 "Gemini Jets" Southwest 737-700 which is yet again becoming rare to find!

Thanks for any input!

Check your assumption against Gemini's July and August release list, you'll find you assume well.

Lately it seems GJ has restocked some popular 1/200 models.

Uh, which model are you really referring to? GJ has now done the L-1011-1 in standard colors, the L-1011-1 with Bicentennial markings, and the L-1011-500 in standard colors. The -500 was the first release and the one that typically goes for a few hundred bucks on eBay. The two -1 releases are very recent, so you're going to see a bunch of them on eBay for a little while.

I've noticed mainly Bicentennial L-1011s on fleaBay...which I assume aren't going to be too popular with collectors.

Was the Bicentennial Delta widget B722 popular?

I may be wrong about this but I am sure you noticed how Inflight came out with the TWA 747SP Boston Express. Then they released the TWA 747SP. From the pics I have seen the only differences is the registration number and the words Boston Express. Other than that its the same model. I think its the manufacturers way of squeezing as much money as they can out of the same model...The new Gemini Delta L-1011`s are a prime example as well...

There are a few more differences in the Delta L1011 released than the TWASP.

The Delta L1011 Bicentennial has different engines, the original engines on that aircraft are modeled. The next one being released soon has the refitted engines that were on the L1011 aircraft later in life.

The Delta Bicentennial also has the engines painted white, the regular release coming next has part white on the engines. And of course the Bicentennial markings are different.

All small differences but the engine differences are the major difference.

Well at least Gemini swapped out the engines...I guess technically making it a different model. Unlike Inflight. It seems that all they did was remove some paint and remarketed the model. Its all good though..The more planes in my collection the better. Even if they are duplicates...
