Antennas in Hogan models
Hi!
Has anyone tried putting antennas above and below the fuselage models that Hogan models does not have antennas?
I have a Delta MD-11 Hogan who came with their antennas
and intend to put antenna in a TAM 777-300 of Hogan.
Any suggestions? Tks.

Re: Antennas in Hogan models
I have put antennas, GPS and SAT domes and beacons on most of my Hogan models. I'll try to post some pics tomorrow. I have an Air France new colors 777-300ER that I've posted pics of before. I've added alot to that model.
It is not really hard to do. It just takes patience, some common materials, and a little time. And I think that the results are really good.

Hey Charlie Alpha hope you can get those shots soon would love to see them, I can imagine with the right tools and materials and even some decals one can do wonders with these models.

Search for the threads of Charlie Alpha, he has posted several threads about his B77W Customized.
Here's one of them:

Re: Antennas in Hogan models
Here is the Air France model that I had in the original post.
Sorry but I had too many pics saved on this forum, and the pics from my previous posts were one of the casualties, and have been deleted.
Anyway, here are the latest. Let me know if you guys want some more. I also have a Hogan Air France 747-400 with added antennas.
Oh yeh, the antennas are sheet copper, cut to size with a shank. I drilled a pilot hole, used an x-acto knife to make a slot, and glued the antennas into the slot. The 'beacon' is a 1.2mm red MV lens available from model railroad hobby shops. Pylons are also sanded to shape, and a shim was added under the main gear to make the model sit better.

What kind of drill did you use? how big of a hole did you make?

Re: Antennas in Hogan models
I make as small of a hole as possible and drill straight down through the fuselage (its only about 1/4"-1/2" thick). Its really just a starting point for the X-Acto knife.
Once you have the hole, insert the X-Acto into the hole ( use a NEW BLADE ) and gently rock it back and forth nose to tail. Work slowly and get the resulting slot only big enough to fit the stem of the antenna. I used white glue to attach the antenna.

Re: Antennas in Hogan models
I think it was a .032" micro bit in a handheld drill.

Good luck. The first one can be scarey, but actually added the antennas isn't difficult.
When I started doing antennas, I got a sheet of plastic and traced the shape of an antenna from another manufacturer onto it. I then cut out the shape with an X-Acto kinfe, threw away the inside, so I had a template to trace the rest of the antennas onto the copper sheet so they were all the same size. If you have a few Hogans to do, it would be worth the effort. Besides, you can reuse it for future models.
If you want additional information, post a reply or feel free to PM me.

What a beautiful model! The antennas are a great job, it really makes a difference. Did you also add details on the engines and pylons?

I sanded down the pylons on the 777 to get a better shape. I also removed about 1/18" from the rear of the engine nacelles to give them a better shape (more of the 'square' GE-90 appearance). I also painted the pylons to simulate the heat resistant metal behind the nozzles and added the small holes on the side of the pylon.
I also added a 1/8" shim under each main landing gear to raise the tail a bit. That does give a little more ground clearance under the engines.

Glad you asked.
I don't think I have posted pics of the 767 yet. The Continental 737-900 is a repeat also. The Eva Air in the next set is new also.
I also tried my first attempt at building a terminal building, and took these pics with it. Still have stuff like lights and a marked taxiway to add, but I like the results so far. What do you guys think?

Re: Antennas in Hogan models
And the Eva Air 'Waves' 777-300ER.
I haven't modified the engines or pylons on this one, and it has the old style engines, but it is still one of my favs.
By the way Payton, do you remember this one? It took me awhile to start on this, and its not finished, but here it is. Enjoy.

Oops, I forgot the commercial. (just kidding).
The jetways are from Jonathon at 200jetties@gmail.com. He is a fellow DAC member, and does GREAT work. These are my first two jetways, with more on order.
