Default Sample PSA - Orange!

Guys,

I know that I am downsizing my 1:200 collection but I could not resist! It will sit nicely with my Pink version!! This is a sample model and I am not sure whether it will be released. It is an IF200...

Enjoy...

Nice sample, did the pink one have the incorrect Hawaiian logo or something like that?

That I'm not sure about.. I guess that a question for someone who has better knowledge about these models.

It certainly is different... Which one flew more commonly the Pink or the Orange?

Very good looking. Since PSA orange happened after the L-1011s were sold this is a fantasy model - we don't seem to have a lot of production fantasy models in 1:200. That Trans Global 707 is the only one I can think of.

I thought that the Orange livery was in existence in 1977. When did PSA phase the Tristars out?

What was the reason for phasing the Tristars out of service? I'm presuming that they only entered in 1974?

They weren't economical to operate in the PSA commuter-type system.

Lots of cool pics and trivia here:

Hi Russell,

Thanks for the comments. Was lucky to have picked this up. I didn't really want it but I just got tempted!

Someone should make this and put it on the market. I'd buy one.

I can't nail down the exact date, but I think PSA switched from pink to orange roughly late 76 to early 77? They also had the two different style titles on the orange livery as well. Love this photo of the PSA girls.

Thats a brilliant picture of the ladies.. Did their uniform change to orange when the livery change too?

Still trying to figure out why PSA retired their L1011's so early?

See link for the uniforms. As for the L-1011's,I believe they were simply to big for the routes they were on?

Thanks for the link... Found that the Airline could not afford the fuel for the aircraft and had to ground them.

The uniforms are great. I have noticed that from the sixties the length of the dress get progressively longer!

Lots of PSA info online. Just Google them. This photo,I always kind of liked. Sadly, one of the girls in the photo,Debbie McCarthy, lost her life in the San Diego accident.

Yes all their photos are here PSA 182. 24 years later the accident is still quite upsetting. The week after the crash Time Magazine published one of the famous Hans Wendt photos on the cover - I bought the issue to go in my aviation collection, read the article and promptly threw it away.

I didn't want to get to far off the thread topic, but yes,the accident was very sad. Many photos online from the San Diego air and space museum archives the morning of the accident. I know a gentleman, who still lives in San Diego, who was friends with FA Karen Borzewski. She was best friends with Debbie McCarthy, and they bid blocks most of the time,so they could fly together. That's why they were both on 182. On a much lighter and happier note,I would like to see more photos of the orange L-1011.

Are you sure the Pink Tristar is a PSA? Looks like a Courtline but I could be mistaken.

The Bahamas 737 looks good.
