No disrespect to Airbus but that i one weird ungraceful lump. It looks like a hotch potch of A330, 764, 787 all mixed into one. Not for me.

I'm not impressed either, if this is to compete against the 787, the winner's a no brainer

Not to sound negitive the a350 does not look appealing, but if there was a logo on it may make it look more dressed up

At last a new generation airliner without those weird, odd looking curved up wings!
I may get this as she would look really nice next to my A340-600.

I don't know, I think it's about as good looking as a C-119.

Yikes! No wonder Airbus always has a 1/4 frontal angle on renderings of this a/c!

I know the wide body, twin engine is the optimal airliner design, but they all look the same to me (and really, really boring at that).

I wish the manufacturers would introduce interesting airliners, like in the old days. My favorite designs spring to mind, as examples:

747
L-1011
VC10
707

A little imagination would go a long way. I only have one Airbus model, and that is plenty for me.

Aerodynamics laws are the same for all the airframers.
It is not surprising that now, all the airliners look alike.

Well, I don't think that the appearance of a model plane, is a good indicator of wether or not the real thing is a serious, technological threat to its direct competitor. The A350 has yet to fly, so it's far too early to assume that the 'winner is a no brainer'

I have the 1/200 A350 in Vietnam Airlines colours, it looks just like a 330 to me, so I won't be adding another 350 anytime soon.

I was referring to competition in terms of aesthetics, not technology, I'm not stupid enough to ascertain such a statement without any info on the A350 other than it's appearance.

Easy my friend, I meant no offence. I read your statement, and to me it seemed a little ambiguous, in so far that it was not clear to me as to which aspects of the competition between the two aircraft you were referring to. Getting back to the topic, I agree with you that in terms of aesthetics, the 787 is the winner.

In terms of design the 787 is absolutely the winner. A350's technology certainly isn't going to be bad; I mean Airbus succeeded in getting a beast like the A380 into the air!

And I'm sure the model will look much better with the favourite liveries.

I'm sure you're right. There are certainly going to be enough liveries around on the A350, to top up many Airbus collections a treat.

Personally, compared to the 787, it does look like a 'yawn' at this stage. We'll see what it looks like in Air France livery and shipped from Gemini before making any further comments.

Uninspiring looking thing , although I'm sure it will fly and perform as airlines expect. Does this model come with wheels?

I think we'll have to wait a little to have something more detailed.

Digital fluid dynamics/digital wind tunnel/cad-cam, and the price of oil has killed any creativity for airliners these days...there's a new formula and now it's just a matter of who can make theirs the lightest and longest lasting. The Dreamliner lost most of it's unique qualities when the design was finally frozen. What's suffered more is the interiors. Plastic and more plastic, especially in business.

I saw this model at the shop Upkeep pointed me to yesterday, and it looked quite sweet. But I only saw it in the box, so it was mostly the nose section I could study. Then again, I do not like the 787-8 too much. The 787-9 is beautiful, though.

Cheers,
Ben

Sorry Jean Pierre, missed your post.

I basically repeated the same thing you said.
But now, I'd like to see a fully fitted out A350, gear, real airline, real reg. It does a purposeful look, but as mentioned by many; a bit bland.

I think I mentioned on another thread that had this same discusion that... the A350 really suffered when Airbus decided to incorporate an A380-like cockpit/nose profile. The A350 had a much more rakish/sporty front end before that happened. See:

Airbus studies A380-style nose design for A350

All that said, as with every aircraft, livery will play an important part in how the final item looks. The Airbus house livery is not flattering to this aircraft. But I defy any aircraft not to look great in, say, Singapore's one.

I have the Skymarks A350 in Vietnam Airlines colours. The nose on that looks better than those two KLM shots. In all honesty, it just looks like a 'Super' A330.

If you ask me it looks a larger version of the E190. I'm sorry but this model has little to be desired. Had the pleasure of viewing the 787 when in Australia and seeing it in life as per photos really gives you an appreciation on the size and shape of the aircraft.

I would wait until airbus actually rolls out the A350 series before purchasing the models...somehow I think KLM's livery doesn't fit on A350, will KLM roll out a new livery for their B787 and A350 airplanes just like other airlines? we shall wait and see....

The other thing is that we all get fond of aircraft over time. It's not always 'love at first sight'. I remember when the 777 came out and loads of people said it was 'boring', 'bland', 'an A300 on steroids', 'a 767 on steroids', a 'mega tube', etc, etc, etc. But look at it now... it's a star. And people love it.

Agree. When the A350 finally flies, people (including me I think) will be more positive and excited about it.

I didn't have this with the 787, but with the A350 I'm going to wait for more details and accuracy on the HG models. Because although the KLM A350 might be interesting for KLM fans, at the moment you basically pay for nothing. But if I had to choose now, I would go for the Megamodels. The HG really isn't worth the price in my opinion.

What jixer says is right. I'm a die hard Airbus fan, but these days I find myself 'in love' with both the 777-300 and the 787, and my recent 1/100 and 1/200 acquisitions reflect that.
