Great collection! That's exactly what I'm trying to achieve with my Lufthansa models!

I like the three tin toys very much: The "Schuco Radiant" - a Vickers Viscount, which Sabena never flew... The Convair CV-340 made by "Tipp&Co" (unfortunetaly yours is missing the front gear). And the Boeing Vertol helicopter. Who was the manufacturer of that one???

@ 727pilot: The Vertol105 is made by Daiya. The little ones are Siky and Dinky Toys.

Sabena was indeed a great Belgian flag carrier!

Nice to read that you have flown with them as well!

Indeed! I remember flying their DC-10 twice from Bombay to Brussels and back... What an airline... Also remember getting one of those SCHABAK model sets (consisting of the B747, A310 and the B737) and the Aerokit (like LEGO) from their inflight sales. Again the kiddies pack was given and a complimentary set of Quattro game with complete SABENA branding on the box. I still have those things with me with the Quattro being in near MINT condition. Their kiddies pack used to have that 'Captain Blue Sky' motif all over it, if I am not mistaken...

Fabulous collection, nicely displayed too. Are there 2 French Dinky S-58's there ? Or is one a plastic copy. I've seen plastic copies of the S-58 at the Woluwe swapmeet many years ago. The Siku is cute, but we mustn't mention 250 scale on this forum

Can you please answer a question about the SABENA blue. The Herpa Convair looks far too dark. Having said that I can remember seeing the 2 SABENA Bristol freighters at Southend in 1961 and thinking that they looked a brighter blue than the c/v's and DC-6's that were coming in to LAP (now LHR). Were there 2 different shades of blue in use at some time ?

Hi Graham et al,
Yes, there has been at least two shades of blue for SABENA aircraft.
I have two little pots of paint, made by XtraColor (Hannants) for DACO Products and sold by Aviation Megastore in Schiphol (NL) which are designated : PA-12 Sabena Old Dark Blue, and PA-08 Sabena Medium Blue. I can't tell what is the period relative to these shades, but the difference is visible at naked eye.

Hi Alain, thanks for the information. Maybe you can work out a date from what I remember (if that's still reliable)

Caravelles, Bristol Freighters and 707's only ever seen in lighter blue (1960-61)

DC-6's and convair liners could be either colour and presumably went through a paint change at some time.

Hi Graham,
The only I can tell, is that following the DACO catalogue, the PA-12 Dark Blue corresponds to the 1960s schemes, and the PA-08 Medium Blue to the 1980s schemes. I saw there was also another shade PA-38 Dark Blue (2000s schemes). I hope this corresponds approximatively with your memories, because I don't remember myself at all, and all my period pictures are B/W.

Thank you Alvaro, your collection is simply fantastic.

I am sorry for coming so late.
Such a collection is a book wide open on Belgian airlines.

Although I have almost everything from DC 3 to the A 380, my little Air France fleet is ridiculous compared to what you have.

Congratulations.

Jean Pierre.

Dear JP,

We are both old enough now to know that it is not always size that counts

What a stunning collection...a true visual feast. You are to be congratulated on your devotion and commitment to your collecting. This is not just a model collection but indeed preserved history of a once great airline. I have a similar Qantas Group/Ansett Group/Virgin Blue/Virgin Australia collection, and would love to share with you all, but I am not sure how to up-load photos.
