Default SM200 models

Just got wind of these models.

Anyone have any specific information on them? I see that they are ARD releases, in a limited number and decaled. Has anyone received one yet?

Thinking of placing an order but I think that what is being produced early on is kind of boring. Lot of obscure liveries.

these were commissioned by a.r.d using inflight mould. and as some are obscure airlines as you say, they are limited to 20 pieces each iirc! due to arrive at any time now. some members have ordered some, so hopefully they will post pics soon!!

SM200 are at last to become available within the next few weeks andthere are some very rare and exciting subjects coming. This range islimited to only 20 pieces of each and demand will be high so pleaseorder soon as they will not be re-released. A few examples are DC-10sof Nigerian, Bangladesh and Air Zaire, DC-8-62s Iberia cargo, Kuwait,Airborne Express, DC-8-63s Sterling, Air Bahama, Aviaco and Atlantis.Interesting news is that we are able to reduce the prices of ourpreviously advertised Boeing 737-200s, 727-100s and 727-200s.

SM200 has also announced the following DC-9-3x:
Hughes Airwest,Valujet,Aero Lloyd,Turkish Airlines and Aero California.
Would have liked to see these on the GJ mould . In fact same goes for the previously
announced 721 og 722 liveries..

Saw them today at Gatwick, evidently there were one or two models in storage that Inflight have had stripped back and had liveried in some of the 'less popular' schemes and operators...

Yes they are decaled and over vanished and come in the plain white IF polyclam boxes... they lack the crispness of a tampoed model but if thats the operator you must have, it's the only game in town.... or Smallworld which IMPO would be a much superior model... but at superior cost.. ...

Agreed entirely X20. The Nigerian was certainly interesting with my only critisicm being the bright varnish and the patchy finish in one or two areas. The DC8's IMOP were a better finish overall than the 10's.

I've been following this line with interest and wonder whether these decals will improve the alignment of the cheat line, cockpit windows, etc. on Inflight's DC-10 mould vs their tampo print. Also wonder if this SM200 effort is to accurately present color schemes vs some of Inflight's botched jobs. As others have stated, SM200's rendering of Frontier's titles is incorrect. I'll wait for decent pictures before considering these interesting releases.

That is absolutely the wrong font that goes with the red/orange Saul Bass scheme.

Any further updates/comments from those who have purchased the models, specifically the DC-10's? Are they worth it?

It's very difficult for me to make a determination based upon pic's alone.

Gave up waiting for mine and cancelled my order. They were always 'coming in a couple of weeks'. Which, for those that know and love ARD, is the stock answer to any stock enquiry. :-)

Here's a link to my thread about my SM200 Aviaco DC-8

http://www.diecastaircraftforum.com/...00-aviaco.html

It is a decaled model but I can tell you it has the best quality decals I've ever seen. Not a single custom I own gets even close. I assure you it is TOP quality

I have a 1/100 PCM 777-300 Egyptair, and an Etihad A340-600 by them. I also had a 1/100 AN225 arrive today.....bigger than I thought I'm not sure if it's a PCM or not, likewise my Iraqi 747SP. Very happy with all of them.

Hi DINO, I have the SM200 Nigeria DC-10-30, and yes it is done on the Inflight mould witch is not every body's cup of tea, but I am well pleased with mine, because it also completed my collection of the aircraft, that I worked on at Heathrow, the livery on this model is also spot on.

SM models and a few other obscure name brands sold thru ARD are blank Gemini and Inflight moulds that are aquired by a source in China that I wont disclose in small numbers..These are not Inflight LE, Smallworld or any other model that Martin Beacom (who makes great stuff too!) makes..they are painted and decaled at a seperate location outside of China...It is very hard to tell them apart from a tampo printed model..Several different manufacturer names but the bottom line is they are all customized by the same source..

My suggestion is that if the model is made by SM or any other small name brand, there is a near 100% chance that no one else will make it, so BUY IT as you probably will have no other choice and you will be quite pleased... Im not sure what all the confusion is, as these are made in very small numbers and very unusual airlines that Gemini wont touch..Im all over the Thai Sky L-1011 planned as I have flown jumpseat several times in that machine between Bangkok and HKG!

Whilst on the subject of obscure brands sold by ARD, does anyone have information on the Sovereign 200 models? These are listed on the ARD website as being very limited painted models with what looks like Inflight 200 Boeing 727 and DC-9 moulds as well as B777`s (presumably Gemini moulds?). The ones that interest me are the IL-18s which have been showing as "expected" for nearly a year. I don`t want to shell out any money until I see the quality of the finished article, although they do look tempting. Presumably this is on an old Western mould as they offer Vanguards and Yorks as well. It is also unclear if these are painted as well or if they will be decalled like the SM200`S. Any inside info on these models appreciated.

thanks,Mark

thanks,Mark

I got my two SM200 TriStars today, the Air Transat and the Orient Thai. Both are not as perfect as the Delta GJ200 i got yesterday. But these are two TriStars and two very interesting liveries. I am still thinking about the other two SM200 TriStars in the colours of Worldways and Thai Sky.

HI Markus,
The SM200 Tristars flight deck windows look very strange. They look like some other airplane.

I've got their Aviaco DC-8 and will love to get an Aviaco DC-9... I am very happy with their decals quality. Can they be contacted to order custom models?

Maybe it's because nostalgia is a pair of roses-colored glasses.

The visual break seen by the decals is atrocious, maybe this was good enough back when aviation models started out, but not anymore (based on what the industry is doing; models w/ decals available). When you look at the pic of the USPS 727 you can see the bloody decal for the windows, passenger door, etc. clearly outlined and again breaks up the profile of the plane, sort of like cheap 3D, e.g. FAIL!

I can also see texture on the engine/ part where the flash of the camera is seen on the USPS model. I hope that's not the paint, worse it could be the bad mold of the plane!

YUCK, I'm sincerely THANKFUL to see pics of the SM200s, NO WAY will i buy any plane w/ decals ever!

P.S. unless this is a bad exception to the rule....

I hope the SM200 USPS 727 is the exception? It's horrible and i can easily tell the difference between the two processes. YUK, i almost bought it!!

Is it me; the pics are out of focus, hard to see the details on the models!

I am surprised that Gemini/JC is not doing a Frontier Saul Bass, since this scheme has already been done, along with the boomerang scheme, on the CV580. Why were both these schemes even done with that sort of sentiment?

Still - I have a Sovereign Air Florida 727 and it is detailed with partial paint (cheatline colors) and partial decal on things like logos, titles, and cargo doors a la Aero Mini.

Great model...It almost looks tampo printed unless under close scrutiny. Frontier Saul Bass 737 is on its way...along with Valujet on preorder...and rally looking forward to them. All should be quite collectable and are distinctive in the collection.
