Who is a Naval aviation enthusiast? Specifically in regards to Carrier operations and deployments of the modern age.
As well can someone tell me if there were any planes deployed with the Kitty Hawk or not? I have heard conflicting reports. Did the carrier air wing stay at home in Japan? Just curious.

I'm game, Colin. The Kitty Hawk from what I have read is being used as a staging base for Special Forces helos, much in the same manner as the USS Eisenhower was used in the operation to restore the government in Haiti.

Yes the Kitty Hawk went over empty. They will have two decks of planes there and one on the way. Should be plenty.

Here is my theory!
The other day Reports were that a sailor had fallen overboard on the Kitty Hawk. Interesting thing was that the reports stated that it was in the Persian Gulf...Not the Arabian Sea! My guess is that they might use the carrier as a launch platform for a mission of special ops guys to go into Iraq in the near future. They would try to do this with somewhat secrecey as to when a strike on Iraq may happen except it won't come as a big airstrike but an insertion of Special Ops troops to take out some key targets by surprise to start things off! This leaves many possibilities for the coalition! Go Navy! Too bad the Taliban didn't have an airforce for the Navy pilots to get some action/kills! Air Force took all the glory in The Gulf War. Good to see the Navy pilots get some air time on TV for once!

I'm a big carrier nut, but more classic machines like the F6F, F4U, Swordfish, Seafire, A6M etc. than these modern jobs. Saying that, the A4 remains probably my all time favourite US jet fighter, wonderful machine.

Aside from the Phabulous Phantom, my favorite navy jet is the Great Grumman Dump Truck, as one Tadpole driver once said, "You win a war by killing the ba5tards by the thousands on the deck, not one at a time at 20,000 feet." "The Intruder was the baddest a$$ mother ever to cross the wake."
