Thumbs up The Avro Vulcan is back!

I thought i had better share some news with you all!
Avro Vulcan XH558 made its first post restoration flight today, from Bruntingthrope Airfield!

After many years of blood sweat and tears by the team, she is finally back where she belongs.

This was the first of three planned test flights, with another one hoped for tomorrow, and one next week.

I`m sure videos are already making their way to youtube.

Feel free to raise a glass in salute of all involed

Very good news! I remember during the 1982 war, here in south america, a Vulcan made an emergency landing at Rio de Janeiro Air Force base and the crew, when they leaved the damaged aircraft, got surprised the brazilian air force was awaiting them with smiles, hot coffee and some food. The brits thought the brazilians wouldn´t be so kind because Argentina is very close from here.

I didn't think Brasil and Argentina got along very well during that time. Plus, wasn't Brasil pretty close with Britain during WWII? Might still be some good feelings left over from that time.

It's so awesome to see that beautiful bomber flying again. It's almost unimaginable the effort that had to go into making that happen. If only we had as passionate a crew to bring back a B-58 Hustler. Wouldn't THAT be a sight?

Here is a Avro Vulcan I saw flying a demo at the International Air Show in Abbotsford BC in 1974.

True. During the Falklands war Brasil stayed in a neutral position and that action kept the argentinians very sad.

I've seen the Vulcan fly one time, when they brought the plane to Barksdale as a permanent exhibit. The RAF brought their ground crew to remove classified equipment and the engines, but I watched while the dismantled the plane. Very sad, but now we have that beauty sitting out at the museum, putting most of the other planes to shame.

Not that many Americans have actually seen a Vulcan bomber, much less one that flew. There were never very many of the aircraft to start with. I got to see a Victor tanker conversion, but I've never seen the bomber, or any of the Valients . The V-bombers were rare birds. Sorry, I got Vindicator and Valient mixed up.

The Vulcan was still operational when I joined the Royal Air Force just after the Falklands conflict. I got a look round one that was stored at Scampton just outside Lincoln when I was based there, very cramped. Look for a book called "Vulcan 607" on Amazon for the story of the Black Buck raid on Stanley, it's a "Boys Own" adventure!

Victor tankers were still in use on Ascension Island when I was there in 1985. Ascension is a tiny island in the South Atlantic Ocean, and a vital stop off point for journeys down to Mount Pleasant on the Falkland Islands.
