Default V-22 Osprey: A Flying Shame

Came upon this article and it's very interesting - 25 years in the making, $20B spent and an expected $35B more to be spent. The Osprey will be deployed for combat for the first time in Iraq.

V-22 Osprey: A Flying Shame - TIME

The article is quite lengthy and there are many interesting points to be discussed. What are your thoughts as a member of the mliitary (current & former) and as a civilian? Or what are your thoughts as a taxpayer, in general?

All new weapons systems have their critics, and all new machines have a "break-in" period, where defects and shortcomings in training will show up. We'll probably see some accidents and groundings for the V-22...but we'll just have to see if this thing is reliable and combat ready over the next few years. The UH-1 had a terrible record when it was first introduced, and look at it now.
