Default 11am and 2 F-18's

An exciting morning!

11am and I was typing away on the computer. All of a sudden I hear a "sound" flying by - knew right away it wasn't a commercial jet but was definitely some sort of military jet.

Anyhow, went out on the balcony to see what's going on ... and an F-18 flys right by my building, really low too! I swear that pilot winked at me!

The next second, another F-18 goes flying by the building. Woo Hoo!!! 2 F-18's, one after the other. I was totally thrilled! By the time I ran to get the camera, they were LONG gone!!! haha. Also, there's nothing quite like hearing F-18's flying by. A truly great way to start the day!

Default Love low flyby's

I was vacationing out at the outerbanks in NC a few years back. Two F-18's came flying by low and fast. Good enough to leave a sand wake behind them. Despite the sand shower, it was darn cool to get to see.

Jeff ... that is really awesome/cool!

The local airport here, Niagara District Airport usually just has Cessnas flying in and out so seeing the F-18's was a real thrill/treat! Another exciting sight was seeing the Snowbirds flying by numerous times back in September! The "good stuff" (eg. Hercules, AN-124, etc.) fly out of Buffalo, NY - just across the border here!

Living near Barksdale AFB I see the buffs and hogs flying all the time, and never get tired of it, either. When the airshow is in town, they fly right over our house, and we've had pilots wave to us on low passes. My daughters love it.

The Buff is quite a rare sight over here - only ever saw one here - back in the mid 1990's, low and fast. What an unexpected but great sight

Back until the late 1980's, this region was heavily used for low-level training (200ft above ground, sometimes min. down to 100ft) - the infamous training range called "Area 7".
Never counted how many F-104, CF-18, F-4E/F/G, Tornados, Alphas etc. shot over our village on a busy day. Add to that the daily ultra low training attacks onto nearby ground units performed by the USAFE Hogs and Army Cobras and not to forget the late evening supply Hercs flying low on route Ramstein - Grafenwöhr/Hohenfels and back...

Today it's become extremely quiet over here - the only exception being the still flying supply Hercs (although at min. 1000ft) and a GAF F-4F or Tornado every now and then with the F-4 becoming increasingly rare

Glad that I don't have to drive that far to enjoy and shoot scenes like these:

I was stationed at Memmingen in the early '90s, attached to a munitions supply site for the Jabo-G 34 "Allgau" (there's an umlaut over the a, my keyboard doesn't have one). They had the most awesome Tornadoes flying out of there, and some MiG-29s from the eastern bases that would fly in every now and then. There was even a Marinefliegergeschwader F-104 that came in for the airshow once, absolutely the best-looking Starfighters ever. Even a Rafale showed up, another beautiful plane. Fond memories of Germany and the airbase.

Jeff, aeroeng, samee380, Steve and Phantom (awesome photos, Alex!):

Great postings guys ... interesting reading!

Unfortunately I don't get to see military aircraft here very often except at the Toronto airshow (every Labour Day weekend for 3 days) and in the past at airshows in Hamilton and Trenton.

Back when I was living in Mississauga, during one of the Toronto airshow weekends a few years back, a C-17 Globemaster was flying towards my balcony/building, so low and close that I literally DID see the pilot! I held up a bottle of wine towards him as a salute and he "waved" his wings at me as a Thank You. That was so cool!

This same weekend, decided to head out to Pearson (YYZ) to see what was going on out there. Just after arriving, the U.S. Thunderbirds landed and pulled up alongside the fence by the parking lot - could see their faces quite clearly and they were waving at everyone. This was exciting! Then they all lined up and took off in formation ... omg, that was LOUD! and truly a spectacular sight to see.
