Anyone know what some of the tail code lettering stands for on military jets? Here in Michigan, the F-16s based at Selfridge have "MI" on the tails, which obviously stands for Michigan. Some planes have tail codes, which to me make no sense. Can someone please explain this.

Can someone please explain to me what the "WA" tail code stands for on planes based at Nellis Air Force Base?

The tailcode WA is used to signify the words "Western Air".
Nellis AFB was originally an old air facility that was owned and operated by Western Air Express until the military was given the property in the early 1940's. |
