Default Question for USAF guys...

Hi all,

I'm thinking of making a small diarama depicting a USAF AMC base, either one in the USA or even Aviano or King Khalid Military City.

I have the Gemini C-5s of Travis, Dover and Westover, as well as C-17s of McChord and Charleston.

My question is: Did all of these units' aircraft articipate in missions ferrying either troops or hardware to the Gulf area, or was this done by one unit/squadron alone? I have friends who flew in the Gulf for DHL during Operation Iraqi Freedom, and they said that they mostly saw McChord C-17s, so I'd be interested to know if all these units were involved.

Also, are all AMC international flights flown under the 'Reach' callsign?

Thanks guys!

Your best bet is to make a diorama of a staging base, like KMC or Rhein-Main before 2005. Then you would have transports from several different squadrons visiting.

I was thinking of Rhein-Main possibly. Good suggestion.

Yes, plus you could extend it to a FRA diorama with the passenger side as well in the future!

Great airplanes have been at FRA when the base was still there..

To answer your question about did all of those units participate in ferrying troops or hardware to the Gulf. The answer is most definetly yes. Here is a list of callsigns. http://www.monitoringtimes.com/Milit...List-Sep09.txt USAF transports are tasked with missions on a daily basis. On top of this every unit is also part of a AEF (Airborn Expeditionary Force). These AEF's are scheduled years in advance so that units can prepare for their turn. Where they go is always uncertain but when they go is not. This is so the load is shared by all USAF units. During an AEF cycle a USAF unit will deploy somwhere in the world and perform their mission. For transport aircraft, they will deploy and then perform transport missions from that location. So a unit might deploy to Ramstein. From Ramstein they may have to do missions all over Europe, Africa and the Middle East. Each deployment is different. With the length of time and the vast amount of logistics required for Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom, most AMC units have been deployed in support of those missions many times.
