Only one of them still flies....
And it is coming to my home town in August! KSGF (Springfield-Branson National Airport) is going to host a display of the Brat III: P51 Mustang and the only flying B-29 Superfortress! This is really cool, nothing like this ever comes into our airport and I am excited to get to go see them!
Only one of them still flies...
I just wanted to let anyone know who also lives near Springfield, or lives within a driveable distance to Springfield.

Re: Only one of them still flies....
You can book a ride on Fifi - close to $1500 to ride in the Bombardiers seat
"Living History" - BOMBER RIDES
I flew aboard the M.A.T.S. Connie in 1997 - thrill of a lifetime! She now sits in static display on some Korean island painted in Korean colors. Makes me sick every time I think about it.

Think I would save the money and just pay to fly in the back. At least you get to wander around a little.
If anyone does get the chance to fly in one of these birds, and can pay for it, you'd better do it soon. Like the Connie, these will be non-airworthy in a few more years. The youngest among them is almost 70 years old, and unlike antique cars the stress of flying and landing will eventually end their time.

Re: Only one of them still flies....
Man, I didn't know it costs so much..I would love to take a ride in either of them, would be a dream come true.
On another note, does anyone know if a diecast of either Fifi or the P-51 that is coming exists? I would love to have a model of either since I am going to see them.
Edit: Yep, expensive. Click on the Book a Ride buttons for pricing.

It would be well worth it if I could afford it.

Yes, a nice FIFI has been released by CORGI (together with a P51 nd P47) in flying attitude. All 1/144 diecast and really impressive ; have a look on EBay, most of the time avialable in UK.
This 'FIFI' is also registred and pictured in our DAC database, under 'B29, CORGI, ID#7194'

Re: Only one of them still flies....
I was at the OshKosh Air Show back in 1995 or 1996, it was part of the World War 2 anniversary show/event. I bought passes for the tarmac and almost had my eyebrows singed as FIFI flew low for a bombing run, they set off the pyrotechnics and man oh man! Fire Marshall Bill showed up with all the explosions they were setting off!!
Awesome show, and what was the most memorable part of it was when they had every WW2 plane that attended the airshow up in the air doing a fly-by; the announcers mentioned it was the largest fleet of WW2 planes up in the air flying formation since World War 2! Never will forget that sight and the sound of all those props! Cheers! T7

Re: Only one of them still flies....
Enjoy! Ive done engine runs in Lancs, stood under Diamond Lil while engine running, helped to fix a B-26 and a Tigercat and flown in a Shackleton. But I wish I had flown in more good stuff.

Nice one Sandy! I missed out on Shackleton and Beverley flights by days before they were withdrawn from use, but managed a flight in a Hastings, as well as several WW2 types such as a flight in B-17 "Sally B".

Re: Only one of them still flies....
Update: I did get to see them on their last day yesterday and had the pleasure of seeing FiFi take off, and taxiing in the Bonanza with the P-51 and Twin Beech that were there. Photos to come later tonight.
