Default F-14s being retired

just read on landings.com VF-102 will be the first squadron to retire their F-14Bs, if memory serves me right, VF-102 was the first F-14 squadron too. They will be replaced by F/A-18Fs and the squadron will change to VA-102

Thumbs up Tomcat Squadrons!

The oldest US Navy squadron is VF-14 Stationed aboard the USS Enterprise presently. They are still flying F-14A models. Second oldest Squadron is VF-31 Tomcatters. They are Flying D models right now. Its interesting to note that the Navy is decomishioning the Squadron not by the aircraft type. So VF-102 will decomishion with B models and thus will likely those planes go to a squadron who presently have the A type! Its nice to see a lot of squadrons finally get to have use of the plane they should have got back in the 80s'! My guess is that the B models will replace the A models with VF -211 checkmates! Just a guess but the Navy likes to change things 5 times before they decide! This will leave only VF-14 "TOPHATTERS" and VF-41 "BLACK ACES" as the only A models left except for the "BLACK NIGHTS" of VF-154 based in Japan. They will be the last to convert I am sure! The F-18F will replace the tomcat as the main Fighter squadron on board the carriers. Pretty sad! Its no where near as capable as the Tomcat. Sure its easier on maintenance because its nearly 30 years newer but dont you think the American people deserve better for their tax dollar!

Thumbs up Tomcats in the Movies!

Another movie with Tomcat action is Executive Decision! As well as being in "The Final Countdown" We get to see VF-84 star in this movie as well. This time with toned down markings. Not to far after the filming the squadron was disbanned and VF-103 dropped their old name "The Sluggers" and took the "Jolly Rogers" name and the Skull and Crossbones for themselves. VF-103 now fly F-14Bs'. They had a lot of missions over Bosnia dropping bombs! They are presently embarked aboard the USS George Washington!

See F-14 is a Naval based aircraft! Air Force One is the Presidental flag ship of the U.S. of A.
Totally different!

Thumbs up Movies

The thing i didn't like about "Air Force One" was that there was too much computer generated scenes it looked too fake! There were some really cheesy flying scenes in that movie with the F-15s!

At least movies like "Top Gun" "Iron Eagle" and the latest "Behind Enemy Lines" have really good REAL footage!

Talking

About as bad as the printer's gaffe in the 1987 U.S. Navel Academy diplomas! Embarrassed, the USNA recalled the diplomas, and reissued corrected ones with 'Naval', but quite a few kept the ones with the printer's mistake.
