I've got to wonder what happens to the handling qualities of the plane when they open up the door at cruise altitude? It looks like it might be designed so that the aerodynamic changes don't really have a effect on it.

NASA spent millions making sure that the harmonics of the opening don't shake the airframe to pieces. Quite an impressive engineering accomplishment.
