YYZ Spotting Meet-Up

Hi All,

Well, this week (March Break) Parminder27 and I have been planning to meet up at Wendy's or Petro Canada; the Runway 23 Spotting Locations at Toronto Pearson International (YYZ). This applies to all of you who are Regular YYZ Spotters or just Aviation Enthusiasts in Toronto ( you don't need a camera!), or if you're rich then those who would like to travel to T.O. to go spotting. Preferable days are (next week) Monday the 15th, Wednesday the 17th and Friday the 19th. Those days are when the Emirates A380 comes in. Parminder27 and I (your trip organizers) will be there from around 1:00 in the Afternoon to about 6:00 in the evening. You can arrive and leave when you like and come and go as you please. The weather for that week is looking Beautiful so far, the light showers we will be seeing will be gone by Sunday or Monday. Wednesday is probably the best day but if you cannot come then, let us know and we will find a day that is convenient. Wednesday's Weather: Clear Skies, Sun, Moderate UV Rays, Westerly Breeze of 15Km/h and a High of 11 Celcius. Wednesday is looking good, there is a high chance it will have Runway 23 Arrivals (The BEST at YYZ).

If you have any Questions or if there is a day that is more convenient for you let us know. We will provide more details when the day and time is Confirmed.

I think Wednesday would be the best...we will see the usual international goodies plus the Korean Air 747 freighter.

Mondays Turkish, Austrian and LAN, not found on Wednesdays. The only guest on Wed is the Korean Boeing 747F.

Monday sounds better as far as arrivals. BUT, the forecast is 5 Degrees, Rain and Clouds and NE Winds. Not very good weather and not good winds for Runway 23, it looks more like 05/06. Pick Your Poison. On the other hand a known more reliable Weather Resource, Environment Canada is calling for light cloud, sunny skies and a high of 10 Celcius. I trust Environment Canada more than the Weather Network. So here's how we're gonna do it: We will check the Weather on Sunday Evening and see what Monday is looking like, if this current system has not cleared or there is another one approaching, Monday will be scrubbed. Wednesday is the Sub. Also, if Monday has 05/06 Arrivals instead of 23/24 then, Wednesday will be the Choice. Be sure to check back here on Sunday Evening for the Confirmed date!

@Heavy, Freak and Jetblue: What day would you be coming (if you are coming)?

Freak, add KLM 744 from EHAM and AF A343 from CDG. As well as JAI A332 from BRU and LH A343 from FRA.

In terms of the wind, the best day for Rwy 23/24s traffic will be Wednesday, as the winds start to slowly change direction. Monday and Tuesday will most likely have 05/06s in use, just like we've been seeing more most of the last week. But weather is looking nice with lots of sunshine for the whole week. So I will probably be going on Wednesday:

Ok. Wednesday looks like the best day so Far. From the List of Arrivals Parminder27 put in, I have 1 to add; the Alitalia 767-300 comes in at 14:20. We will probably be there from 2-6:30 in the afternoon. Wednesday looks good so far for 23 Arrivlas! Can you guys make it out for Wednesday?

lol, I am in school too.....BTW how do we know which runway these EXOTIC planes would land? We only know the terminal...And since we are spotting at runway 23, how would we know which planes are landing their? I got no transmitter either

Well the runways being used depends on the weather conditions, most importantly the wind. Westerly winds are being forecast for Wednesday, a pretty good indicator of Rwy 23 and 24L/R arrivals and departures.

If you go Wednesday and are at Runway 23 the following airline usually(95%) time go in on 24 LAN , Air Jamaica and Caribbean. Very rarely do they go in on 23 or 05.

Well if you are basing strictly on winds then: Northerly=33L/R, and Southerly=15L/R. But from what I've seen 23/05 and 24LR/06LR are used more often than 33LR/15LR.

Tomorrow is looking MUCH better than Today.

Wednesday-Sunny. Wind becoming west 20 km/h in the evening. High 17 except 10 near Lake Ontario.

The Weather will be absolutely GORGEOUS tommorow, clear skies, hot weather and a light breeze, you can't ask for much more

. And we are almost Guaranteed 23 Arrivals. Not to mention the tons of Foreign or "Exotic" Flights coming in Tommorow.

We only know the terminal...And since we are spotting at runway 23, how would we know which planes are landing their? I got no transmitter either

What about Southernly winds or Northernly or any other winds? PS: A webiste link would help a lot!!! I guess people are really learning everyday, not just at school, even though its march break :P
