OFFICIAL 747-8F "First Flight Thread" --- February 7, 2010
(
Dagnabit ! I screwed up the date again ... should have been February 8th ... d'oh!!!
)
The first flight has been delayed by about 30 minutes, from the original
10:10 am PST schedule due to low visibility, which should be burning off shortly.
The first Boeing
747-8 (B748) will depart Snohomish County Airport (Everett, WA) this morning after 10:00AM PST for a test flight returning to the same airport.
The Boeing 747-8 (BOE501) is expected to take off on runway 34L at Paine Field.
The aircraft was under the command of Boeing Chief 747 Pilot
Mark Feuerstein and senior test pilot
Tom Imrich .
To watch a LIVE webcast of the event, visit:

Cool ... FlightAware.com is the "official" flight tracking site of Boeing ... here's their link for those who wish to track the flight of
RC501 .

The site doesn't work for me either, the only videos are the "making of" and "taxi test" (I'm in Canada as well).
I'll have to watch it on a local Seattle newsfeed, at this link I can see the people walking around with the weather delay writing on it so I'm good to go!

The
official site won't go "live" until about 5 minutes before the actual flight ... so hang in there with the rest of us!

I know we have weird weather patters here in the northwest, but right now its sunny and broken in Renton, so do we have to wait much longer?

Ditto but yet again the only movement I'm catching is the ground crew. I hope it flies before my 3:00 class.

Yeah I have a class at 3 too, and it's a 2 hour class, so if it doesn't go before then I'm pretty much out of luck.

Its to bad this is not the pax version, its kind of wierd having the first variant/first flight be a cargo plane. Still, its going to be great to see this in the sky

At least we can watch the guys walking around in white coveralls to pass the time (that's if you aren't glued to the Boeing site waiting for a feed).

And every once and a while a car drives by! And a forklift just drove by! That is the highlight so far!

No worries. I had both sites streaming and found the KiroTV feed to be better quality and if nothing else a different vantage point (from a helicopter).

YAY! The 747-8 finally flew. Probably didn't get as much attention as the 787 did from the media. But nonetheless it's great news that it flew the coop
. Thanks M1 for all the Pics, Videos and Updates. Too bad I missed it, I was in class
