Here's my first video I've put on youtube. It's from some old 8mm movie film that my dad shot on our summer trip back in 1978. It's fairly out of focus, but gives a fun nostalgic look back at PHNL.

Excellant! I really hope your dad has some more footage. I spend hours while I'm on the road just looking at old video of airliners. Check out them two UA DC-8's in the foreground.
Great post, and thank you!

Great video! You Tube is awesome. I'm finding more and more classic gems of old films from people's collections as old 8mm films that are transfered to digital. Last night I spent a couple of hours on You Tube watching films from the 30's 40's and 50's of classic ocean liners, (Normandy, France, United States, Bermen, Liberte, Mauritania) from personal film collections. All amazing films that would have never been seen without You Tube.
If you are a You Tube fan like me, I would highly suggest purchasing an Apple TV receiver. The software on Apple TV is set up to access You Tube and up covert for your 16:9 HDTV. So I surf You Tube on my 50" HDTV. With so much free video content on You Tube, I'm finding I'm watching a lot less legacy TV programming. Apple TV also plays your iTunes collection, podcasts, video podcasts (SD & HD), slide shows of your digital photos, and you can download (rent or purchase) movies and TV shows (in SD or HD).

Thanks guys, glad you liked it. I was surprised to see those United DC-8s there in HNL, didn't realize they flew them there. And with the new at the time red/orange/blue paint job, pretty cool. I'm pretty sure the Pan Am was Clipper Constitution. The film was taken from the restaurant overlooking the japanese garden in the center of the airport. I saw the 747 and recognized the clipper name from a picture in one of my books, and asked my dad to film it. We were heading on to Narita on Pan Am that day after a two night stopover in Honolulu. There weren't any nonstop flights from Seattle to Japan back then, so we went SEA-PDX-HNL-Narita. Northwest Orient was trying to start nonstop Seattle-Tokyo service, but I think they were running into problems getting government approval.
As a sidenote, later that summer Northwest Orient pilots went on strike, which really complicated travel between the states and Japan. Anyway, I'll post a couple more films that you guys might enjoy also. |

There is a You tube downloader DOWNLOAD YOUTUBE VIDEOS
It beats having to bookmark pages or having to search for the videos you love. Just download them and then watch them whenever you want. (Sorry about the raunchy advertisments that sometimes come on the main page) |
