OHHHHHHHHHHHH VERY NICE!!

When are you trying it out? I'm saving for that 70-300mm lens you showed me, but of course, I have other things to pay for at the moment.

should have gotten the F4 IS version. its sharper and a better performer than this 2.8 IS version. its also lighter and much much smaller too, not to mention cheaper! and I doubt you'll ever find yourself wanting 2.8 in spotting!

enjoy your purchase though! i hope you use it for more than just spotting otherwise thats quite a waste of that lens' capabilities haha

I use a Nikon D40 with a 55-200mm lens...Billy uses a Cannon. Can't remember the specific type....look in the previous pages of this thread. I know its been discussed once, twice, or 10 times before in here.

Thanks, Justin. Do you reccomend the Nikon? It is the most reasonable and seems like a good deal to me.

There is an excellent variety of nikon lenses and they are much cheaper than canon in general.

Well I've never used a Cannon before, so I can't say if Nikon is better than Cannon or not. But with my experiences with the Nikon D40, I would definately recommend it...especially since it is a decent priced body. The lens is what you really need to invest in. I just heard on the radio that my local Hobby Shop is having a Nikon sale...so that 70-300mm lens may be coming in the very near future.

Awesome pic jorge. All of mine got rejected again, all for contrast and JPG compression, and the SAS was rejected for being backlit.

B-16707 said earlier that you do not really need the likes of f.2.8 for this kind of photography, but I'll hazard a guess that that shot must have been from quite a fast lens to get it as sharp as that considering what the lighting conditions appear to be.

I await to be proved wrong as always however.

John, I do not know what the issue is, but I still can not edit these to their fullest. What file size did you take these on your camera (image quality setting)?

Yes, but what format size (4272x2848, 3088x2056, etc)? There should be a place you can adjust this in the menu of your camera.

Remember guys, the lens helps, as does the camera and resolution.

When you shoot, then you're trying to get the proper exposure, a fast enough shutter speed while keeping as low ISO as you can to reduce noise. Sharpness will be a result of the lens you are using and proper panning technique. If you have an IS or VR lens, that will help, but if you can't pan, it wont matter. You try to get the shot as close to technical perfection in terms of exposure & composition. But it's the post processing that makes a shot really a.net/jphotos worthy. So an L series lens will get you almost there, but the editing work on the image is where you'll make the adjustments and get those shots accepted.

Here is an example of how a shot is decent out of the camera, but just pops after some basic editing:

I use Adobe Photoshop CS3. I now shoot all raw, but in the Tbirds pics, that was jpg and shot at Edwards a couple of years back.
