Default History Question - Name The Airline and Person

Name the airline and person in the following question:

Which former airline has an acronym that spells out the nickname of the person who would later become an airline titan?

Hint: The fledging airline received a loan from this person who was a loan officer at a bank.

Second Hint

The airline was purchased by Boeing, but the airline retained its original name.

The person was hired by Boeing because of his sound business skills.

Right, the airline is Pacific Air Transport, and the dude is "Pat" Patterson, who I believe was involved subsequently with United Airlines as their President.

Congratulations Prestwick for the correct answers!

Vern Gorst, owner of a successful bus company in Oregon, formed Pacific Air Transport (PAT). He formed the airline because of his love for aviation and to ward off any possible competition that would encroach on his bus line route along the west coast. He won the bid for the contract airmail route between Los Angeles and Seattle (CAM-8) and started service on September 15, 1926.

William "Pat" Patterson was a loan officer at Wells Fargo Bank when Vern Gorst sought a loan. It was at that point that Pat Patterson learned about aviation and fell in love with it. He was president of United Airlines from 1934 to 1966. Too many honors to mention.

Second Picture: William "Pat" Patterson at the bridge named for him in Waipahu, Hawaii.
