Default TIT for TAT

I would say that since we've spend countless HUNDREDS of BILLIONS over there the past five years, this is the LEAST they could do as a 'payback'.

Iraq signs deals for 50 planes

Considering we tore their crummy country up in the first place, it's only right we spend the money to put it back together...we did it for Germany and Japan, and look how grateful they've been. Besides, we've been getting all that cheap oil from the Iraqis as reparations, right?

Payback? For being bombed into the stone age? I think its more the fact that they don't have much of a choice.

I would have liked to see Iraqi Airways with a few A330's and maybe even 777's. The 787's won't be available for at least 8 years.

Yeah, if not 9, the way that the delays are going. I think that this is a great step to begin and rebuild a country that we have no right to be in and have messed up enough already. Probably most of these flights won't be anywhere near full, but who cares, with oil as cheap as it is.

What I had meant was that, regardless of the damage to their infrastructure, we did "rid" them of Saddam Hussein, the "master terrorist", and the guy who had all those "weapons of mass destruction" ... oh wait a minute ... he didn't after all ... DOH!!!

Yup they ended up being a myth, but hey everyone makes mistakes and collateral damage is simply an occupational hazard.

Well whether or not you agree with the war, the simple fact remains: the large majority of people there are gland that Saddam is gone, and they will in the coming years benefit from us kicking him out. aka...Japan. Besides the bombing done in Iraq, is nothing compared to Germany or Japan (do you remember little boy and fat man?) Smart bombs and the effort to reduce collateral damage by the Air Force have really given the Iraqi infrastructure a leg up over past post war erras. I see the purchase of these aircraft as a sign of this.
