I was looking for something in the Portland, OR area and decided to push the map over to the airport to see what's what. After looking at a NWA widebody, I noticed a 747 in the cargo city area. After trying to figure it out (was it a shadow, lens distortion?) I ID'd it - it's the 747 LCF! I've seen picks of it all over the world but I didn't think I'd find it on sat photos of PDX. Neat stuff! I'm assuming it is there because of the proximity to Evergreen International who operates it. I forgot they were involved in that...

I believe Boeing has least one if not both of large hangers on the south side of PDX and has a paint shop there. I have seen a few new Boeings in partial green coming from Paine Field as they fly over my house. I am located about 15 miles east of PDX.

Yes, boeing has moved all paint operations to PDX following production starting on the 787. I am extremely excited to go spot this summer once school gets our, hopefully get the LCF, as well as some other widebody boeings.

Yes, hopefully it will. I didn't even know that they flew the LCF into PDX. There is a company in Gresham, one of the suburbs of Portland, that makes a certain part of the landing gear of the 787. I believe that they also manufacture the bolts that secure the wing to the fuselage. I guess the LCF was there to pick up the parts. Can't risk a crash on the 5 hour drive from Portland to Seattle, I guess, or they needed them right away. Highly unusual, hope to see it again. The LCF, in my opinion, kicks the A380, and the Beluga's a*s
