Default Boeing 787 Maiden Flight

Remember you read it here first!!!

In a surprising move the Boeing 787 undertook its first flight this morning.
I found this on their website with attached photo.

How about posting the URL from which you retrieved this? I noticed the article is dated April 24, and in the U.S., today is April 23.

The photo does not look real, either. I assume it's the Phoenix model. It is not clear and sunny here in Seattle today. It will be raining here soon. (No surprise.)

Strange that the two pics in the article don't even match the full picture posted.

In an even more surprising move, the undercariage failed to tilt aft (like the 757) when it got airborne resulting in the aircrafts air/ground logic systems thinking it was still actually on the ground.

Perhaps because it actually was ?

Nice Photoshop job there ... honestly, if I didn't already own that model by Phoenix, I would have had to look twice to be sure it wasn't a fake.

Very real looking!

Now on the OTHER hand, although this is an official BoeingMedia.com release, this computer rendering is indistinguishable from the REAL thing, IMHO.

It's a hoax. No such things may be posted as it can damage Boeing. (We all know it's delayed) lol
I suggest you delete this thread, and I'm pretty sure you (DAC) will be contacted soon for this.
I've experienced something similar but with Airbus and that A380 was cut off the production line, and soon after the website was contacted by Airbus itself, and demanded to get the particular thread deleted or ELSE............

And it was a screenshot and edited photos too.... What a coincidence.

Well, here's a REAL photo of the STATIC TEST PLANE, which is going into the hangar where the Static Testing equipment is located.

Here's the description from the BoeingMedia.com website:
Boeing Moves 787 Dreamliner Static Test Airframe to Testing Rig

EVERETT, Wash., April 25, 2008 -- Boeing [NYSE:BA] moved the 787 Dreamliner static test airframe from its Final Assembly facility in Everett to its structural test rig this evening. The test rig is located only 1,000 feet away from Final Assembly at the Everett factory.

Some assembly remains to be completed on the static airframe. That work will be completed concurrently with test set-up. Test set up is expected to begin immediately, with tests commencing this summer.

"During static tests we apply loads to the airplane structure that simulate both normal operation as well as extreme flight conditions," said Randy Harley, vice president of Engineering & Technology for the 787 program. "We monitor the airplane to confirm analytical predictions and make sure the structure holds up to these conditions."

Movement of the static airframe clears the way to begin assembly of the third 787 to enter the flight test program. Most pieces of the third airplane arrived in Everett earlier this month. All assemblies for Airplane #3 are now in Everett, and the airplane will be loaded into the first position of Final Assembly early next week.
At least they are making SOME progress ...

I just love the marketeering speek.

"some assembly remains"

That thing has a loooooooooooooooong way to go.
There are some in the aviation world now touting this thing won't see EIS until 2010.

Ouch to the cashflow.

That front nosegear looks a little short in that picture. I was expecting longer for a plane that size

Is that really a 787? It looks a lot like a 777 with the three-wheel bogies. I'm sure that I am wrong though.

The first Boeing 777F began final body join as the all-new long range freighter moves closer to taking to the skies later this quarter.
Sources familiar with the 777 program tell FlightBlogger that the body join process got underway today.
During the final body join, the forward, center and aft sections of the 777F fuselage will be mated together. The wings are attached to the center fuselage section, which is made up of Section 44 and the center wing box. Wing installation occurs before the 777 fuselage sections are mated to one another after they complete systems installation.
Installation of the cargo doors was completed as a part of the systems installation process.
Following the completion of the final body join, final assembly of the 777F is expected to begin along the moving production line later next week. The moving assembly line, which was launched in November 2006, moves at a speed of 1.6 inches per minute.
According to a source close to the 777 program, the first 777F is expected to make its first appearance on the Everett flight line around the middle of this month.
The second test flight 777F is expected to enter final body join in June.
Air France/KLM, launch customer for the 777F, is expected to receive its first of five freighters by the end of the year.
