Before we sound the death knell for Frontier remember that this is an entirely different situation than what Aloha, ATA and Skybus faced. It is true that Frontier is facing rising fuel costs and had to sell 4 planes to raise capital but this particular move into bankruptcy is really a shot a their creditors. Wells Fargo was planning on withholding capital from the airline which would have proved detrimental, to say the least. Although this move into bankruptcy may foreshadow greater issues at the airline, at this point it is a bit of legal maneuvering to free up cash.

Exactly, which was making Wells Fargo very nervous... Wells Fargo holds the largest claim on the airline (representing mutual funds, other holders, etc.). By freeing up the funds from First Data you placate Wells Fargo for the moment

Or not. Sad to see an old company getting that bad. The rising fuel costs are going to hit the air transport industry hard, and even introducing new aircrafts with 20 or 30% less consumption won't be enough, I'm afraid. I guess this situation will prompt the development of less oil-dependent technologies, but many will bite the dust meanwhile...

A lot of airlines here in the US are facing the possibility of going under for good or already have. Any international carriers facing this same reality? I mean what will replace the airline industry?

Came across this on Frontier One Last Ski Trip ATL-DEN-SLC-DEN-ATL — Trip Reports Forum | Airliners.net
Interesting to note, or maybe I just noticed it on the photos in this report, the inner winglets actually have the same animal as the one on the tail...that is so cool... http://www.airliners.net/uf/53691483.../php5DcVbp.jpg Would have been fun to have snap off winglets to match one of the 6 tails that came with the Frontier Hogan aircraft....Such a great colour scheme. I hope they can stick around though! Last edited by 1:200Freak; 04-15-2008 at 03:18 PM. |

Nope, they are still flying. I think that they cut the delicious food, though.
I have always had good experiences with Frontier, except once, my flight was delayed for more than 6 hours. A 6AM departure scheduled departed at about 12:00 PM. Ridiculous. For this reason, my family doesn't fly them anymore.
