I am sure most of you have seen the footage of the Lufthansa landing attempt in a very windy and stormy weather.
If you haven't seen it here is the link : YouTube - Lufthansa A320 escapes after wing-tip strike Hamburg storm My question is : Why the pilot even attempted to take such a big risk and try to land the plane in that situation? Specially when he is flying an Airbus 320. Passengers were so lucky that pilot took the control of plane before left wing hits the run way and ends up into a disaster. |

That is completely scary. I heard that they were offered counseling to cope with their stress/trauma after the incident

what pilots need is more training than counselling. The cross wind effect is clearly obvious on the approach before the runway boundary. Trying to land such a light weight plane in that condition is nuts ..
Could auto pilot make the plane stable and pilot use the rudder manually to control the crosswind effect ? I am not a pilot but would that configuration help at all ? For some reason I don't trust A320s Possibly based on what I heard from Airbus technicians on different occasions. But it's just me and may not be true in reality at all. |
