Default Turkish Airlines is officially a member of Star Alliance now.

Now a member of the Star alliance. Though they should make the airline titles a little bigger, she's still looking good.

Welcome to the turks. !

Quote:
At a ceremony held in Istanbul today, Turkish Airlines was welcomed as the 20th Star Alliance member airline. With an additional 31 destinations – mainly in Turkey, Central Asia and the Middle East, customers now have more choice than ever before when travelling on the Star Alliance network. Overall, the world’s most experienced aviation alliance now offers customers the choice of 18,000 daily flights serving 965 airports in 162 countries.
“With Turkish Airlines we have gained a new member carrier with a strong home market which is also one of the fastest growing economies in the world. Moreover, we can now offer the Star Alliance benefits to a large number of new travellers, while at the same time simplifying travel for our existing customers to many of the new emerging markets in Central Asia and the Middle East,” said Jaan Albrecht, Star Alliance CEO.

This comment kinda slide to offtopic, but what the heck.

Well some of the reasons why some particular airlines are still not on an alliance is that the airlines itself doesnt provide the "good service" that it requires to be a member. For example Philippine Airlines might be acquired by any of the three alliances in the world since PAL's inflight, ground service, and stuff isn't good enough. Star, OW, SKY would never let it's costumers fly on a lower grade airline, nobody wants that. I do hope someday for PAL that it will be a better airline than what it is right now.

Another example of a lower grade airline.
Oneworld withdrew Aer lingus membership in April 2007 when the airline turned itself into a low cost airline.

yes, they are big, which is better, but service levels across the airline members, excluding a few airlines and select aircraft. Is falling tremendously. Hopefully the alliance doesn't flop.

Welcome to the turks. !

hope to see them with United at ORD! I wish they could get all the Star Alliance airlines to use Terminal 1 for their departures. Only a few do like Lufthansa.
