This kind of discovery is not new with the FAA, only on a more massive scale.

I hope that when the powers shift in Congress next year that regulation of air safety is finally separated from the portions of the current FAA that are mandated to prompt the civil aviation business.

You should've seen ABC news yesterday, they had completly mis-interpreted the story and said "Southwest airlines had been fined over 300 million dollars after they had been found flying old aircraft." or something along the lines. I guess the memo of its maintinance standards, not age is what makes the plane unsafe, either that or they're being themselves and creating a new version of the story.

I don't know what's more troubling:

a.) FAA inspectors knew about the planes flying "unsafely" and did nothing about it or

b.) WN did not voluntarily ground their aircraft when they are past their routine inspection for "airworthiness" certification.

i knew it. there had to be a catch to their low fares. and here i thought all along they were 100% honest! how naive of me! welp now that the mouse is out of the house, maybe they will shaped up and do what needs to be done
