What do you think about my question? Why there are no orders for the A380 from airlines from north america?

They don't have any money to go spending on these Tanks.
Most are In/Have/Will be in chapter 11, so these might not be that high on the list. We might see Northwest or United order some, as they have a 747 fleet to replace, But the A380 and 747 arn't the comparable. Baiscally I dunno. |

Frequent flights by large quantity of narrowbodies (A320/757's) and "small " widebodies (767/777) which is more popular in the US market . I think that's why we don't see that many 747's "these days" except NW's and UA's.
Delta-NorthWest would be likely to stay with Boeing, in the form of 748I's. Taking on A380's would be a big step?

I'm not sure, apart form maybe one or two routes to Asia, it appears that the A380 is just too big for most of the markets that the US airlines fly to. Plus, most of these guys are slowly getting more A32X/737-800 to phase out their older equipment and can't be bothered to replace the widebodies who fly on most of the long distance routes. Apart from that, the 747 proved to most airlines in the 1970s that just because a plane is big dosn't make it great. Thats why we don't have any 747s in DL or at AA (who had them in the early 70s, but were not really huge fans since it didn't fit their fleets well.)

I thought all the 742s were gone from pax service by now. I don't keep track of NW's fleet much these days, so I wouldn't know. But 20 years old is not too bad. I'll need to go look up the 744 introduction dates, I'm sure that all of th 744s are under 20 years old.

UA & NWA Are The Only Legacy Carriers With Large Enough Asia-Pacific Routes To Justify 747s.
All Other Airlines In The US Are Described As Domestic Carriers With Some International. OK American Is Fairly Large Internationally, But Their 777s & 767s Suit Them Fine. A-380 Not Justified For US Carriers. |

It unpatriotic to buy European. They might also rename all the existing airbuses to make their use a bit more patriotic viz. Airboeing or Boeingbus etc.

![]() Here are some other European Birds that US airlines have operated: Sud Aviation Caravelle: United Vickers Viscount: United, Capital Airlines (merged with UAL), Continental. BAC 1-11: American Airlines, Mohawk, Braniff F-27: Various airlines flew this, including Ozark, Northeast, Delta (short time after Northeast merger) some were the FFH-227 (licnesed built version). Fokker F.X Trimotor: PanAm, TWA There are just a few examples of "European" birds that flew in the US.

Very simple :
currently only UA and NWA have 747s in their fleet but these aircrafts won't be replaced by either 747-8i or A380 because they don't need it, that's too large for their requirements. And all US airlines prefer more frequencies and medium sized aircrafts than very large aircrafts and less frequencies, even in the pacific network. But we'll never know if BA, AF, QF, EK, VS ... are plenty happy with them they can change of mind, moreover it will be a flagship for these ailines. |
