Canon and Nikon has been doing their fair share of the market for eons of years.

Sony is only good for doing AV systems. Stick to that lol

Why I prefer Canon over Nikon ?
Just name a few reasons. The price is right for the camerabody in the market. The Canon lens selections is pretty wide as Kai said. The Nikon lens prices are way expensive compared to Canon which is cheaper but just as great products. for smaller amount of money.

Layout. (Example)

Nikon 1/3
Small selection but great stuff offered by Nikon.
Excellent ED glas products, but quality=expensive . You got quality alright..

Canon 2/3
There are atleast a dozen more products offered by Canon used by prof- photographers out there.. compared to the small but good stuff offered by Nikon.
Also excellent L glas products, but same equal quality=cheaper on the Canon side.

This is ony my POV, I bet the Nikonians will disagree/flame me for this. lol

If so, I used to have this back about 2-3 years ago.
How does it work for you ? To me it kinda softened all my shots. Was never pleased with it, Traded it with a 75-300mm instead. <-- Noob Lens)

Viva the Canonites.
Yes, it's that one. Partially satisfied with it, but never had the opportunity to get something really better. My feel is it does quite a good job at 200mm or less. Is the 75-300 really better ? Anyway I'll go for a L lens.

Those 2nd Gen lens (marked with "II") suffered the dreaded soft at the full focal length. Especial those lenses (either the 100-300mm or the 75-300 /70-300mm IS) you name it, tend to soften the images at 300mm.

I only found it sharp in the range of 150mm-200mm, below this and above that, you can just forget it. lol. At that time the 75-300mm was the only lens that I could afford, and since I was a rookie, I didnt take the time to ask the forums (I didnt even have a computer at that time either) I just wanted to get a lens quick, so I could go out and take photos. Hahaha.

Oh yeah, One you felt the Love from Canon, you never want to try other products..

After I purchased my 24-105mm L lens, I simply had to go and buy one of the best lenses from Canon, the 70-200mm F2.8 IS as a supplementary for the smaller lens. (And still today Canon has not yet made a better product, except ofcourse the excellent Prime lenses) Not worthy lol

Nikon's glass lineup is just as good, if not better than Canon's at the pro level. Canon's lineup is bloated due to all the consumer/prosumer crap. If you're looking at specialty lenses, Nikon has the edge with the macro, defocus control and tilt shift lenses.

In terms of price, Canon's L glass isn't any cheaper that Nikon's pro level AF-S stuff.
