What the heck is this green thing?? I saw it while taxing for takeoff at LHR too.

No, but seriously...there was a discussion on a.net about this some time ago. If I'm not mistaken, it's used for training fire fighters.

Manchester, UK got exactly one of those as well, In gray scheme though..

And one below at Amsterdam, though more ugly than the green that you see at LHR..

Its a specially built aircraft combo of DC-10 and B747. It is used by the UK Airport Fire Department for excersies incase of emergencies at LHR. Many airlines/airport service come to LHR to train with it.
